Month in Review: April 2015
G’morning, readers. We’ve reached that day on the calendar. Here we have month four’s “review,” “rewind” or what have you. Basically it’s an annoyingly similar post that recaps some of the blog’s content and various other random things – for example, things I’ve found on the interwebs or me babbling about wanting to find a cute, versatile, smart-looking summer dress. Today we’re getting ready to turn the page on the FOURTH month of 2015 (how!?) and enter the “may flowers” portion of the popular duo. May is a busy month for my family. Mainly just because it’s packed full of birthdays, which means by the end of the month I’ll have picked up more birthday presents and made more cards than the rest of the months require. But enough about that, let’s get this month in review started.
1.) Batman v Superman Teaser Trailer: It was such fun to discover this “teaser” promoting 2016’s epic DC Comics battle. It seems like it’s the film that will launch the “bigger” universe for the DC Comics gang a-la Marvel’s Avengers.
2.) Blog Changes: finally those promised blog changes are here. One night this past month, I was sitting in front of my desktop and my mind went to a URL change. That led to some reading, relying on awesome tips I received from blogging friends and putting my domain into the virtual shopping cart. Once there, I panicked and went to backtrack (it could wait for another day) – but then, wait. I found a coupon code that cut my bill in half… and ta-da! We had to order the domain then. After that, I thought, “Okay, baby steps. We’re done for tonight.” But nope. I went ahead, hit all the buttons to switch over completely and closed my eyes (figuratively speaking), hoping I wouldn’t destroy all I’d worked hard on over these past four years. Fortunately it worked out!
A few things…
– when typing in the URL, I do notice it will sometimes give me fits. Instead of just typing in the URL and .com, usually it works best to go with the “www.”
– If you’re sharing a post for a giveaway, you will need to hit the “red” portion of the Pinterest share button (or the colored part of any button) in order to get the button to work. Otherwise, the “sharethis” buttons are embedded at the bottom OR you can share the post via the “home” page and the line of share buttons.
3.) Book Mail: I was super grateful to receive some amazing book mail this month. Thanks to Becky Wade, Jennifer E. Smith (Hallie and Little Brown), and others I am primed and ready to read following the INSPYs. I was quite proud of myself for NOT requesting books these many months and this past week I receive another book that I can now read… whenever I want. Perfect timing, right!?
4.) Dreamcasting the Avengers: this Bookriot article is something I just came across this week. It’s pretty darn awesome.
5.) Dress Shopping: Okay, so this past week, I was doing some (online) window shopping. It’s been a long time since I picked out a cute dress or skirt and it felt like a good year to do that. Plus, I have a family wedding in June (cute perfect excuse). Any nice online shopping haven is insanely expensive. So I’m curious, what are your go-to stores? I’m looking at places like Shabby Apple, though if I were to walk into a store more locally, it’d be something like Kohls because that’s what I have.
6.) True Confessions: this video is brilliant! I loved how authors Kristy Cambron, Katie Ganshert and Melissa Tagg put it together. Three talented ladies having a bit of fun with their favorite ways to procrastinate. What could be more entertaining?
…oh and since they are on the Gilmore Girls debate, I have to add my two cents. Jess is still a jerk (right now) in season four. I keep hearing all about his maturity and he is the character who grows the most, so I am anxiously awaiting that. Until then, I’ll look forward to meeting Logan and have to confess, I’m preemptively upset over Rory’s messed-up decision (hint: it involves Dean).
(My) Blog Favorites
1.) Call the Midwife, Season Four: Anytime I get to gush about favorite British series, I’m in. This is why I loved writing about the currently airing (in the U.S.) and very popular ITV series, Call the Midwife. In spite of its flaws, I found season four full of heartfelt stories and the characters (particularly Trixie) fleshed out more.
2.) Discussion: ARCs and Appreciation: I always enjoy blogging about “discussion” inspired posts and this was no different. It was great to hear everyone’s opinions and discover what you thought about those ARC copies you might replace.
3.) Meet the Blogger: Bekah and the Taylor Swift Book Tag: I had the pleasure of introducing readers of this blog to one of my must-read blogger favorites, Bekah. Her Taylor Swift book tag contribution was such fun! Well done, Bekah.
4.) Recent TV Addictions: Who doesn’t love to fangirl over favorite fandoms? The only thing that makes it better is fan-girling with all of you. Thanks for all of your fun comments on this random post.
5.) Reservations for Two by Hillary Manton Lodge: Finally shared my review on Hillary’s second novel of the Two Blue Doors trilogy. It’s such a good book.

Silver Petticoat: I took the opportunity to write about the charming (and sometimes “creepy”) ITV mystery The Making of a Lady this month. It really is one of the most engaging costume dramas I’ve seen in recent years and I shared Five Reasons why I think so. I know this because I’ve watched it about 3-4 times in the short time since I discovered it.
What else was I up to on Silver Petticoat? Well… I shared the lead-in and romance of “the kiss” (via the Classic Romantic Moment) in Emily Owens M.D. and reviewed the too-cute-for-its-own-good Hugh Grant rom-com, The Rewrite.
