Can’t Wait / Waiting on Wednesday | Tenth Edition

August 9, 2017
Hello, readers and followers! Happy Wednesday. Welcome. With another mid-week arrival, today we’re joining the “Waiting On” fun with Can’t Wait Wednesday. A meme Finding Wonderland occasionally takes part in.

Organized by my fabulous Bookstagram partner in crime (check out our August challenge)Tressa of Wishful Endings, here’s another Can’t Wait Wednesday

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted here to spotlight and talk about the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released as well. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine. (Find out more here.)

For today’s meme, we turn the spotlight on a YA sci-fi novel that releases in the near future.

Ordinarily I might not feature this sort of novel (in fact, ironically, I have a discussion post planned about genres in the not-too-distant future), however surrounding its upcoming release, I’ve been hearing really (no really) good buzz about this one. Add in the fact that I recently read The Evaporation of Sofi Snow, which seems like it’d be similar, and featuring Marie Lu’s Warcross seemed a natural choice.

Warcross is earning reviews from bloggers (and reviewers) claiming it as the best of 2017, which makes my excitement level further elevated. I’ve also not read any of Marie’s other novels. The one I have bought is Legend, and also seems to be a well-like series. The question that remains is this: why haven’t I read a novel from this best-selling author?
WARCROSS
Publisher: G.P. Putnam’s Sons Books for Young  Readers
Genre: YA Fiction, Sci-Fi
Publication Date: September 2017

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Marie Lu—when a game called Warcross takes the world by storm, one girl hacks her way into its dangerous depths.

For the millions who log in every day, Warcross isn’t just a game—it’s a way of life. The obsession started ten years ago and its fan base now spans the globe, some eager to escape from reality and others hoping to make a profit. Struggling to make ends meet, teenage hacker Emika Chen works as a bounty hunter, tracking down players who bet on the game illegally. But the bounty hunting world is a competitive one, and survival has not been easy. Needing to make some quick cash, Emika takes a risk and hacks into the opening game of the international Warcross Championships—only to accidentally glitch herself into the action and become an overnight sensation.

Convinced she’s going to be arrested, Emika is shocked when instead she gets a call from the game’s creator, the elusive young billionaire Hideo Tanaka, with an irresistible offer. He needs a spy on the inside of this year’s tournament in order to uncover a security problem . . . and he wants Emika for the job. With no time to lose, Emika’s whisked off to Tokyo and thrust into a world of fame and fortune that she’s only dreamed of. But soon her investigation uncovers a sinister plot, with major consequences for the entire Warcross empire.

In this sci-fi thriller, #1 New York Times bestselling author Marie Lu conjures an immersive, exhilarating world where choosing who to trust may be the biggest gamble of all. – Goodreads

Thanks, me too, Barb. And yes, it is getting a lot of hype! Not sure it'll be a "me" book because of the subject, but nonetheless, I'm curious. :)

      Thanks for visiting!

I'm looking forward to this one as well! I've read three of Marie Lu's books (Legend, Young Elites, and Rose Society) and have enjoyed them all. I haven't loved any yet, but I have a soft spot for YA sci fi, so I hope this will be the one that does it! Great pick this week. Here is my pick for this week!

Good to know, Gennifer. I'll have to read Marie's books. Someday. Perhaps starting with this, her newest. I appreciate you sharing what you thought. Do you have a favorite YA sci-fi?
