It’s been a little while, but we did share about an upcoming indie adaptation of Jane Austen’s Persuasion a while back. After that, a second production was announced and I won’t lie, I’m a little bit giddy because maybe one of these will be more of a “me” adaptation of this second chance love story. Probably everyone and their mom already knows about this one, but since lots of new faces were did join the cast in recent days, I decided to share about this Netflix adaptation Persuasion cast news.MEET AN INTERESTING NETFLIX CAST: A SECOND ‘PERSUASION’ NOW FILMING (+ PHOTOS!) #Netflix #Persuasion #JaneAusten #PeriodDrama Click To Tweet
This is from Netflix and Media Rights Capital (or MRC) and I have this feeling, especially now seeing the cast, that it’s going to effect a more modern look. On the one hand I don’t mind this as I’ve loved modern versions of Austen in the past, but I think because I haven’t really found “my” version of this story yet, I really want a timeless, authentic classic. However, being the Austen fanatic that I am, of course, I will watch this one and try to keep an open mind. If you don’t know the story, it follows a 27-year-old Anne Elliot, who is now past marriage age in society. Then she meets again with the man her family convinced her to spurn years ago, and now in an ironic twist of fate, their fortunes are reversed.
Saying all of that, let’s look at the cast and the parts they’ll plan.
NETFLIX ADAPTATION PERSUASION CAST NEWS
HENRY GOLDING AS MR. ELLIOT
Golding was, of course, in the smash hit Crazy Rich Asians, in which he’s quite good (I loved his character). However I didn’t see his follow up role because I was NOT a fan of the way said movie ends (yes, I’m a movie spoiler reader).
COSMO JARVIS AS CAPTAIN WENTWORTH
Haven’t seen this actor in (much of) anything but from what I read he’s a “rising” British star. Apparently he was in My Mother and Other Strangers (which I oddly did enjoy), but truthfully, I don’t remember this name. Maybe he was in a secondary role? I’m not sure, but it’s good to know he has some period drama experience.
DAKOTA JOHNSON AS ANNE ELLIOT
Popular for a certain series of films, I do know Dakota from the TV show Ben and Kate, which I thought was cute in its own quirky way. However, unlike Jarvis, but like Golding, I don’t know that she’s played in a period drama let alone as a British character before. It may be a good thing or it may be not so good. Time will tell.
ALSO IN THE CAST
Also a part of this cast is Suki Waterhouse (from Pride + Prejudice + Zombies); Mia McKenna-Bruce; Lydia Rose Bewley; Edward Bluemel (The Halcyon, A Discovery of Witches); Richard E. Grant; and Nikki Amuka-Bird. Lots of names and faces I don’t recognize, and some I do.
It’ll be fun to see Suki Waterhouse in something else, and while I’m not 100% sold on every member of this cast (most of which we don’t know who is playing whom), I’m always curious about going in with a “new” cast rather than people I’ve seen in a million things. So. I’m cautiously curious, let’s call it, about this adaptation.
But as usual, I want to know YOUR thoughts. What do you think about this adaptation? Does it get a thumbs up or down from you? Do you think any of these actors will bring new life to the characters? Comment all of your thoughts below.
