A NEW FALL 2021 TV SHOW PREVIEW AND SCHEDULE: NEW HEROES AND MAYBE ROMANCE

September 19, 2021 3 Comments

It’s been a long time since I had reason to publish a preview like this. The last midseason TV debut season didn’t have anything to interest me, and if I’m being honest, this fall 2021 TV show preview and schedule really doesn’t have much that interests me either. After re-watching the former CBS TV show The Mentalist, I’m realizing that the kind of TV I love just isn’t being produced or picked up any longer. Still, it’s always fun to look at what’s coming to our TV screens.

LIST | MOVIES I SAW WHEN THEY WERE NO LONGER COOL. (BECAUSE I’M NOT COOL)

In this group of fall 2021 TV, I simply don’t see much that screams to me as being something I “have” to check out. It’s all fantasy and dark and just not my cup of tea and is anyone else noticing the ridiculous amount of reality TV!? Am I the only one who still loves scripted? Either that or its family comedy which I feel I see enough of (right now). But let’s take anyway and see if we can find one or two to be excited about.

FALL 2021 TV PREVIEW AND SCHEDULE

Please note: premiere dates are subject to change. If I see a change, I’ll try to add it, or if you know of one, let me know and I’ll make the edit.

1: THE BIG LEAP, FOX – SEPTEMBER 20

This one features quite the cast (Teri Polo, Scott Foley, Piper Perabo, Mallory Jansen) and follows a group of “ragtag” dancers who try to put on a modern version of Swan Lake. Don’t see this one having staying power, but who knows. I also see it as being WAY too modern for me, but I may give the pilot a chance.

2: CSI: VEGAS, CBS – OCTOBER 6

A spin off the CSI franchise, this one is set to follow original stars William Petersen, Jorja Fox and Wallace Langham along with a new cast including Matt Lauria, and Paula Newsome. It says the series “opens a brand new chapter,” presumably in relation to this CSI team.

3: FBI: INTERNATIONAL, CBS – SEPTEMBER 21

The second spin off from the FBI series, this one follows the “international fly team” who travel the world working on missions that track threats against America. This one also seems like, much like its matriarch, it could be way too “relevant” for my preference. The cast includes Heida Reed (from Poldark), Luke Klenintank, Christine Paul and Carter Redwood.

4: GHOSTS, CBS – OCTOBER 6

Rose McIver leads the cast in this “single camera” comedy about a couple who inherent a country house that, surprise, surprise, they discover is haunted by former occupants! Could be really cute and fun. Or it could be WAY too silly.

5: NCIS: HAWAI’I, CBS – SEPTEMBER 20

If there is ONE show I’m curious about (don’t want to be TOO excited), it’s this new version of NCIS. I’ve been more disappointed than thrilled with their matriarch show lately, so I do have skepticism. However I will check this one out about a team operating in Hawaii featuring Vanessa Lachey, Yasmine Al-Bustami, Jason Antoon, Noah Mills (glad to see a The Brave alum!), Tori Anderson, and Alex Tarrant

6: LA BREA, NBC – SEPTEMBER 28

Anyone else remember Revolution, also from NBC? Reading about this one gives me some of those same vibes. It features Natalie Zea in a story about a family that is separated after a sinkhole opens in LA. Again, I don’t see this one have staying power.

7: ORDINARY JOE, NBC – SEPTEMBER 20

Sounds, in part, kind of like a Sliding Doors concept about Jimmy Wolk’s titular character as the show explores three parallel lives of what his life may have been. Also wondering if they’re looking at something like this to help bridge the This is Us gap.

8: PROMISED LAND, ABC – UNKNOWN

Follows two “powerful” families vying for wealth and control in California’s Sonoma Valley.

RETURNING FAVORITES: 9-1-1 (Fox); 9-1-1: Lonestar* (Fox); All American (CW); The Baby-Sitters Club (Netflix); Big Sky (ABC); The Blacklist (NBC); Blue Bloods (CBS); Bull (CBS); Call the Midwife (PBS); Charmed* (CW); Chicago Fire (NBC); (Also on NBC) Chicago Med and Chicago P.D.; Dancing with the Stars (ABC); Evil (CBS); FBI (CBS); FBI: Most Wanted (CBS); The Flash (CW); The Good Doctor (ABC); Home Economics (ABC); In the Dark*(CW); Magnum, P.I. I’m looking forward to the CSI reboot, that was one of my favorite shows years ago. La Brea looks like it could be good for a couple episodes and then quickly go downhill. We like the FBI shows, so we’ll probably try International.

I just started to watch the original CSI and I like it. So someday I’ll probably make it up to this point in the franchise. ;) I agree re: “La Brea.” It seems like it’ll be short-lived. Good to know about “FBI.” I watched 2-3 episodes of the original and liked it.
