Like any year, there are rarely TV shows I get super excited for anymore. However, for TV shows, fall is THE prime slot they hope to snag when pitching new shows. So, because fall is a BIG deal in the TV show world, we’re going to look at what’s to come. This is our annual Fall 2022 TV show preview.

WHAT WILL YOU WATCH? #SOHELPMETODD #THEROOKIEFEDS #ALASKADAILY #HILARYSWANK #FAMILYLAW #VICTORGARBER #FIRECOUNTRY Click To TweetThere’s some pretty big names starring in the fall line-up. From Oscar winners to recognizable comedians, you’ll probably know someone. Beyond this, there may be one or two I’ll watch the first couple of episodes for. This is kind of my rule since many times, it takes three or so episodes since often the pilot is shot months beforehand and is used as a kind of gage of what to iron out. I don’t see many, even at this, that I’ll be likely to fall instantly for, but I’d give some of these a chance. Make sure to read through and let me know what you’ll give a chance, too!
FALL 2022 TV SHOW PREVIEW
ALASKA DAILY
Where: ABC | When: October 6

About: Looking for a fresh start, a journalist begins working for a paper in Anchorage only to get caught up in a case that goes unsolved. Hilary Swank leads the cast.
EAST NEW YORK
Where: CBS | When: October 2
About: Follows a recently promoted captain who leads a group of officers and detectives in her precinct.
FAMILY LAW
Where: CW | When: October 2
About: A dysfunctional family winds up working together at their father’s law firm.

Thoughts: Victor Garber leads the cast in this, and I’m kind of getting Bluff City Law vibes from this one only maybe with a more humorous angle? Either way, I’ll like give this Canadian show a chance now that CW has picked up the U.S. rights to it.
FIRE COUNTRY
Where: CBS | When: October 7
About: A convict joins a rehab program that has him working with an elite firefighting crew who work to contain and extinguish large fires across the country.
Thoughts: From Max Theriot, it’s long been speculated that his involvement (both in front of and behind the camera) with Fire Country could signal the end of his run on SEAL Team. Despite hearing great things, I haven’t watched his other show, but I may give this one a chance.
MONARCH
Where: Fox | When: September 20
About: Follows a country music dynasty who are all determined to protect their dynasty.
Thoughts: After debuting tonight, the 11th, post the NFL game, September 20th will be the premiere of this. I’m not overly invested in this plot but do like that Anna Friel is one of the stars. She’s fabulous in British period pieces as well as the short-lived Pushing Daisies. Also is anyone else getting Nashville vibes from this? You can find episode one (and each episodes after they air) digitally on Amazon Video; or on Hulu
QUANTUM LEAP
Where: NBC | When: September 19
About: Follows a team of scientists who must restart a project left dormant by the disappearance of Dr. Sam Beckett thirty years prior.
Thoughts: This one sounds more like a kind of continuation of the 80s show of the same name rather than a traditional reboot. Nonetheless, it may be one I give a chance. Plus it looks like it may appeal to Timeless fans with its time travel angle.
THE ROOKIE FEDS
Where: ABC | When: September 27
PREVIEWING THE FALL 2022 TV SHOWS: WHAT WILL YOU WATCH? 🎬🍿📺LOOKING AT THE NEW #FALLTV COMING IN SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER! #MONARCH #TVSHOWS #SOHELPMETODD #NEWTV #THEROOKIE Click To Tweet
About: Spin off of ABC’s The Rookie, this one follows a team of FBI agents and includes Kevin Zegers and Britt Robertson led be Niecy Nash.
SO HELP ME TODD
Where: CBS | When: September 29
About: Follows a man who works as a P.I. who agrees to become his mothers in house investigator.

Thoughts: this could be a fun one. Skyler Austin and Marcia Gay Harden team up in this that I’m sure will also tackle some of the complications of a son working for his mother.
WALKER: INDEPENDENCE
Where: CW | When: October 6
About: A prequel story about when the Walker family established.

Thoughts: Of course, this is a show inspired by the recent remake that is CW’s Walker, which is inspired by the 90s show Walker, Texas Ranger. What’s funny about this is Matt Barr will star, and he’s also recurred in Walker.
THE WINCHESTERS
Where: CW | When: October 11
About: Follows the love story of Mary Campbell and John Winchester and the challenges they have before they can have their own love story.
Thoughts: If you loved the now over Supernatural, you may love this prequel show which is about the brothers Winchester’s parents. It chronicles their meeting and eventual love story as Jensen Ackles narrates. Plus, Meg Donnelly from American Housewife plays Mary.

I’m in a total TV rut! Frasier reruns are getting old again. I’d love a recommendation if you have one for me to try! I love West Wing, The Mentalist, The Office, and The Great British Baking Show.
The Mentalist is without question one of my ALL time favorites and I sympathize with you on being in a TV rut. I’ve been there for a while now. :/ I’ve been watching for the first time Dharma & Greg. Since I’m probably the only person who hasn’t seen it, it’s probably not a recommendation. ;) Beyond that, I’m undecided about the other comedies I’m watching or usually watch crime dramas since my mother is a mystery story fan. Honestly I miss the days of TV that put out things like The Mentalist which had the mystery or puzzle element but was intelligent and with exception to the Red John climax, really doesn’t get TOO dark. You’ve made me think though: what TV shows do we still love that are good watches!? ;)
