‘LOVE ME TOMORROW’ IS A YA NOVEL WITH LOTS OF HEART

SYNOPSIS: Love isn’t something that Emma Nakamura-Thatcher believes in. It’s a myth and her life which is, and has been, difficult is what taught her this. Her parents had a bad divorce which Emma saw firsthand, and now it would seem her father may be making a repeat mistake. But on a whim, Emma makes a festival wish that if by some chance love is real, she be given proof.

Nothing much happens after this wish until she receives a love letter… from the future.

The letter writer claims to be someone she knows in her present, but he cannot reveal who he is only to say that she is the love of his life.

Now the question becomes, who is this boy? Is it the next-door bestie? The bad boy musician? Or maybe he’s the son of her mother’s housekeeping clients? Whoever he is, the letters slowly start to convince Emma that maybe her future does have a happy ending.

LOVE ME TOMORROW by EMIKO JEAN book review

REVIEW: It’s been a long time, but I picked up a book by Emiko Jean and at the time, I was really curious and excited to read it. Time has passed, and here we are, still a reader who hasn’t read a novel by the author (who has written across different genres). When Love Me Tomorrow came up, I read about it and instantly had this feeling it’d be one I’d enjoy. Happily, it is.

This novel is charming and full of heart and even has some understandable complications about relationships and love. Emma is a compelling lead, and someone easy to root on. She is understandably confused, but throughout this journey, we cheer for her and enjoy seeing where it takes her. The letter writing also lends a wonderful element of old-fashioned style that is undeniably lovely.

Love Me Tomorrow is an easy recommendation. The tropes (!!), the romance, the writing (I really like Jean’s voice), and the sweetness, all of these things combine to ensure this is one that its reader enjoys, it’s also one that recommends itself. Especially if we love a good romance read; Jean also has a very good voice for the genre, which I respect. It’s also a novel that keeps the reader turning the pages, eager to discover what may be next in Emma’s life; and lest you think otherwise, just know that this explores other interests in Emma’s life, too.

For any reader who likes contemporary novels or who considers their favorite rom-com one that uses writing as a trope, make sure to add this novel to your list. It’s pure delight!
