‘MARGO’S GOT MONEY TROUBLES’ ADAPTS A POPULAR BOOK

Based on a novel of the same name, the Apple TV adaptation of Margo’s Got Money Troubles is here. If you’re anything like me, you’re going in blind, so let’s discover what this eight-episode story is all about.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles (2026) Apple TV Review

Becoming a mother isn’t exactly what Margo Millet (Elle Fanning) has planned for her life at this stage. But when she finds herself pregnant after an ill-advised torrid affair, she decides to raise her baby. Thing is, she doesn’t have the money let alone the know-how she thinks she needs to be a mom. Struggling, even with reluctant barely there help from her mother (Michelle Pfeiffer), but wanting to provide, she decides to do something a little out of the box.

With advice from her quirky pro wrestling father Jinx (Nick Offerman), Margo opens an OnlyFans account. What she doesn’t realize is this new experience floods her with even more unexpected challenges.

I have never read the novel (I know, no one is surprised) that this is based on, but I didn’t even try to before watching this because it doesn’t seem like a “me” book. Based on the story alone, I’m proven right. What is good about this show is that it is full of characters with grit and gumption which is understandably admirable. Margo is also a character who knows she made bad choices, but she tries to do the right thing in the aftermath, even if her version of this gets twisted. This one also has quite a cast.

TV SHOW REVIEW | ‘HIGH POTENTIAL’ SEASON TWO: WHO IS THE GAME MASTER?

In addition to Fanning and Pfieffer, you’ll also see Nicole Kidman and in guest roles Laura San Giacomo, Greg Kinnear and Marcia Gay Harden. As one would expect with this cast, they’re good and I did enjoy seeing them play their respective roles. This starry cast will draw in viewers, but as is true of every show the question then becomes, will the viewers stay?

For me, I don’t know that I’m all that invested in this. That said, again, I appreciate the stellar cast and do think the characters, for quirkiness alone, are interesting. It’s nice to see Elle Fanning in something again and of course, both Kidman and Pfeiffer have separate hit shows already. No matter what else I could say about Margo’s Got Money Troubles, I don’t know if I would have the right words. Apple TV doesn’t shy away from having edgy and very mature content, and this one is the same.

There are things that I respect about this (the opening credits are cute which feels like a lost art and this is written by TV veteran David E. Kelley), and then there are things that just don’t work for me. I do think Margo and her mom share some touching moments which surprised me. So, I don’t know that this is one of those shows you’ll hate or love. I think if you liked the book, it’s definitely worth giving a chance. For everyone else, well, you’ll just have to watch an episode to decide.

Content: this one is a TV-MA rating and so far, it deserves this. There is a lot of content. Click below for the content.

The first ten minutes has a full shot of female and carefully disguised male nudity (he is on his side so we see his legs, bare chest). (This scene is shown again later in the episode as a memory.) We see more than one shot of bare female breast nudity as he caresses her skin (and again when she’s in the bath). There is more than one scenes of characters having sex against a wall (lots of movement, thrusting, and ecstasy). There is conversation about sex and of course, the entire OnlyFans page will factor in later and there will probably be more conversations coming with that.

Some conversation and scenes about what happens after giving birth (we see lots remedies used like icing stitches, using cabbage leaves, etc.). So, yes, mature things. There is profanity including frequent F-word uses. Please note; this reflects only content in episodes one and two.
