Let it Be Me, by Becky Wade | Book Review

REVIEW | Returning to Misty River is another sweet experience in the sequel of Wade’s newest series. This second novel follows the lives of Leah Montgomery, Sebastian Grant and though lesser pages, Ben. Two of whom are part of the five main characters this series builds around.

What happens in this contemporary romance is a love triangle, kind of. I’ve never seen one written quite as this one is, and it’s one that deserves all sorts of praise. In this scenario, the girl isn’t conflicted about the “who” of her affection. She has conflict over the one person she’s attracted to, yes, but she also knows which of the guys isn’t the person she wants to know beyond a friend. The wishy-washy emotion of girls in a love triangle is one of my biggest pet peeves, so I’m glad this one steers clear of such nonsense. In this way, I appreciate and love these characters. But of course, they’re likeable for many other reasons, too!

I don’t think this novel is quite as impacting as Stay With Me, which I also think is a beautiful story. However, I’ll admit part of my reservation in fully loving this story is likely the narration. I listened to part of the novel on audio, and just don’t love audio books. It makes me see characters (the voices, inflection, etc.) in a way that I didn’t first envision them, which messes up their likability. Despite this, anyone who enjoys Wade’s novels will again discover another gem of a story. Let It Be Me is her tenth (!!!) with Bethany House, and it’s another memorable story.

  1. I’m halfway through this one right now. Becky Wade is a personal favorite of mine, but I’m having a harder time connecting to the characters in this story. They are a bit too rational and remote for me to relate to.

    1. I don’t care for this one QUITE as well as “Stay With Me,” but I cannot decide if it’s because of the story/characters or the fact that I audio-booked most of it (don’t normally) and I do not care for that! Either way, I’ll 100% be reading book three. :)
