‘THE TOOTH FAIRY’: A SILLY COMEDY THAT THE WHOLE FAMILY ENJOYS
With a recognizable celebrity in the titular role, The Tooth Fairy is a movie the whole family can enjoy.
The Tooth Fairy (2010) Film review
Feeling on top of the world as a glorified kind of “enforcer” on his minor league hockey team, Derek “The Tooth” Thompson (Dwayne Johnson) has a good life. He’s in a relationship with a wonderful woman and despite his prior NHL dreams crashing, life is just… good. He self-destructs when he crushes the dreams of his girlfriend’s two kids and gets a tongue lashing for the bad choice. An unexpected consequence of this is that Derek grows… wings.
The change is, as Derek comes to learn, so that he can perform two weeks duty as a tooth fairy. You see the punishment is to teach him that without children’s dreams there is no imagination. But question is, will he learn a lesson?
FILM REVIEW | ‘THE LOST CITY’: THAT ONE MOVIE EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT
‘THE TOOTH FAIRY’: A SILLY COMEDY THAT THE WHOLE FAMILY ENJOYS #DWAYNEJOHNSON #MOVIES #CUTEMOVIES #FAMILYMOVIES #WHOLESOMEMOVIES #FAMILYMOVIENIGHT Share on XSeeing this is a choice that continues my re-watch of multiple older films. The Tooth Fairy is one I would have seen years and years ago, and pretty much all I fully remembered was Dwayne Johnson. What I didn’t realize is how “silly” the film really is. I mean, I knew that was the general route of comedy it takes, but what I didn’t realize was that it’s pretty impossible to take seriously. Especially considering who they cast as a tooth fairy, which I’m sure is 100% on purpose to make it that much sillier.
Like usual, Johnson carves out some fun in how he plays the character. He makes the moments he’s in full tutu funny and reacts in the normal way we love to see and in good humor. You’ll also see additional star power in names like Ashley Judd, Seth McFarlane and Julie Andrews, among others. Plus if Hallmark fans look real close, you may spy a familiar face. It’s a star packed little film that has some heartwarming moments mixing in with the silly. Plus, anytime Julie Andrews is on screen, it’s just fun.
All that to say, The Tooth Fairy is one of those fun and cute movies to watch with the whole family. It’s entertaining and fun and pretty wholesome entertainment for a night in.
Content: there is some minor crude humor and if it is bothersome, the lead character is very self assured and enjoys the attention.
