‘JOE SOMEBODY’: A FEEL-GOOD FAMILY COMEDY
A comedy with one of Hollywood’s popular stars, Joe Somebody isn’t perfect but it is fun.
Joe Somebody (2001) Film Review
Average Joe has perhaps never applied better to anyone than Joe Scheffer (Tim Allen). He’s video specialist working for a pharmaceutical company. At the office, he’s invisible and no one gives him a second look. Doesn’t really matter because his whole life revolves around his daughter. Opinionated and full of sass, Natalie (Hayden Panettiere) is the best thing in Joe’s otherwise dull life and her dad is her favorite. Things all change when on a normal take-your-daughter-to-work-day, Joe is slapped around by a co-worker taking his parking spot.
This changes Joe’s entire life and makes him reevaluate his life plan.
FILM REVIEW | ‘ON A WING AND A PRAYER’: AN INSPIRATIONAL TRUE STORY ABOUT FAITH AND FAMILY
🥊‘JOE SOMEBODY’: A FEEL-GOOD FAMILY COMEDY🥊 TIM ALLEN STARS IN THIS 2001 COMEDY. #MOVIES #COMEDY #TIMALLEN #FUNNY #COMEDYMOVIE #FUNNYMOVIE Share on XThough I saw this years ago, I’ve only seen it once and enjoy Tim Allen’s TV show Last Man Standing. When I spotted it available to stream, I decided Joe Somebody deserved a re-watch. The film isn’t dynamic or the best comedy you’ll find on the digital streaming shelves. This is true when you look at the script or just the set up. Regardless, this film is one of the best movies when you look at the heart of the story.
The cast is good and it’s charming to see Hayden in this as a young girl at the start of her career. Allen of course is known for his role in the popular Disney movie The Santa Clause plus the voice of Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story. His role here is fun and I like seeing him play not only dad to Hayden’s Natalie, but also his character’s journey. Additionally there is fabulous supporting cast appearances of Julie Bowen and funny guy Jim Belushi.
Anyone who likes movies with the leading man will enjoy Joe Somebody. I do wish Natalie and Joe’s relationship would see more screen time given their father-daughter bond. Still, it’s sweet what we do get. It’s easily one of the movies we miss from theater screens today. It has a story with great heart and has kind lessons to teach its characters.
You can stream Joe Somebody, at publication, with Hulu.

Content: this one has some minor sexual innuendo like a boss watching his co-worker walk away and implying that they have undeniable chemistry and it’s leading to a bedroom. There is some crude humor and may be some minor profanity but nothing outside of the normal PG rating.
