‘BACK IN ACTION’: ONE REALLY FUN ACTION MOVIE RETURNS FAVORITE ACTOR TO A FAMILIAR ROLE
A much-publicized film while in production, Back in Action is, like its title would suggest, a good time action comedy with familiar stars.

Years ago, Emily and Matt (Cameron Diaz, Jamie Foxx) were at the top of their game. They were some of the best agents in the CIA. However, after starting a romance, family then comes first and a desire to give their kids the best life, and so they walk away. Today, they are busy with teenagers and aren’t needed by their kids anymore. However the past isn’t done with them when their former lives come knocking at their door and together Emily and Matt must again step in the world of espionage to keep them all safe.

As a concept or plot, this film isn’t remotely unique. In cinema, this concept has been done time and again with titles like Killers or Mr. and Mrs. Smith, or even Knight and Day which Cameron Diaz co-stars in. What makes this one stand out is the many news stories and headline attention it received during its production. The reason for this is of course because it marks the return of Cameron Diaz to leading lady. Prior to this, the star hadn’t been in anything since the 2014 film Annie, in which Foxx also co-starred.
This film is very much like a kind of “welcome back” role for Diaz as her character is likely, in some ways, mirroring her real life returning to acting. The film is good fun and while it may be a concept we’ve seen often, this doesn’t make Back in Action any less entertaining. The music choices are also fabulous, and they give the film even more personality. The “grandpa” character is also hilarious and quirky.
There are loads of cool action sequences (even yes the over the top ones) and of course, the cast does a good job with the roles. In the end, this is yet another fun action-er that you won’t want to miss if you enjoy this genre of films.

If you also enjoy the short lived TV show True Lies or Blood and Treasure; or films Killers, Mr. and Mrs. Smith or The Family Plan or the Cameron Diaz led Knight and Day, then this is easy to recommend.

Content: there is profanity like sh*t and a use of the F-word. There is some sexual innuendo and kissing. There is a lot of action sequences including hand-to-hand combat and the use of weapons. Fiery explosions, tense chase scenes and threats to harm people.
