Fox is handing a second season to the (made in) Canada murder mystery show Murder in a Small Town. The show is based on the novels by L.R. Wright about lead character Karl Alberg. The show features Rossif Sutherland and Kristin Kreuk in the lead roles as Karl and librarian Cassandra.
According to multiple articles, Jared Padalecki has a new project. This after his bitter comments about CW and possibly not returning to TV because of its demands. Something we covered in a prior pop culture story. Originally gaining notoriety in Gilmore Girls, Padalecki went on to successfully star in the CW show Supernatural, then the shorter four season run of Walker (also CW). Most recently he had a guest arc in Fire Country which is rumored to have a spin-off. But before that (which articles say won’t affect this) he is set to lead a medical drama for CBS with Anna Fricke, Walker showrunner, developing. According to a Forbes article, the drama will be all about a “headstrong, devoted country doctor (Padalecki) who practices his unique style of improvisational medicine alongside his new protégé, a young doctor running from her past, as they operate a mobile clinic […] in […] rural Texas.”

POP CULTURE NEWS 173: ALL ABOUT TV PREMIERE DATES AND NEW TV DRAMA ✨ Talking the BIG controversy from this week (which bores me!) and a new medical drama on the horizon! #NCISSydney #BlakeLively #JaredPadalecki Share on XIf you were anticipating NCIS: Sydney to debut its sophomore year on January 31, you have to wait one extra week. According to a CBS press release, the offshoot of CBS’ popular NCIS franchise will now debut February 7 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) “on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs) *. The shift is due to a soon-to-be-announced special.”
According to another press release, the first episode of season two (which will now air on February 7), “Heart Starter” follows the NCIS: Sydney team as they “do whatever it takes to crack the case of a rogue assassin on the run during NCIS Special Agent DeShawn Jackson’s chaotic first day as boss.” Do we think DeShawn is the permanent new boss?

There are two stories (the second is below) from this week that bore me, despite it dominating headlines, the talent performing at next week’s swearing in ceremony is stirring up the usual drama among people. I’m so bored with these types of stories because I’ve seen it time and time and time again (on both sides) and to me, all it does is prove that no matter who says it (again both sides), the people who say “let’s learn to put aside differences,” “move on” or “let x, y or z go” don’t really believe that. Or it wouldn’t seem they do. Just seems like we use social media to argue, express annoyance, or be cruel about things rather than having fun.
I’m not even reading articles anymore about the Lively vs. Baldoni drama, but did see another story this week stating that Baldoni is suing both Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds for 400 million. Could this story possibly intrigue me before it’s all done? Maybe. But I’ve also read things that suggest both people were behaving badly and when that’s the case, I find it hard to sympathize with anyone… expect us who have to see it everywhere.
Which of the above stories did you read about? Which ones did we neglect to share about? Did any of these stories make you excited? Let’s chat!
