‘BANK OF DAVE’ IS A FEEL GOOD MOVIE YOU MAYBE HAVEN’T SEEN

Cute and charming and really all about the good feelsBank of Dave is lovely and a film you probably haven’t seen.

Bank of Dave (2023) Film Review

Ordinary and happy in his professionally successful life, Dave Fishwick (Rory Kinnear) still has dreams. Running a successful chain of dealerships has allowed him to help his community in unexpected ways, the primary of which is loaning them money that banks don’t. Not one of the loans he extended went unpaid, and rather than profit anything for himself, he puts all of the funds into worthy charities.

Now, what started as neighbors helping neighbors has become too big, and Dave wants to make this official. The question now becomes, why can’t he open a bank? This brings Hugh (Joel Fry), a London solicitor to their small town. Together, with the support of the community, and his niece Alexandra (Phoebe Dynevor), Dave wins over the cynical Hugh and they set into motion plans to take on – and lose, the banking industry.

One of those “hidden gem” titles you may not have heard of, Bank of Dave is easily a movie worth seeing. It’s charming and wholesome in the best ways. The story doesn’t set up overly well, but despite this opinion of that being a flaw, the film is still quite good.

The performances are really quite good even if I don’t know everyone. Rory Kinnear is a popular name although not one I’ve seen as top billing in my film watching. Regardless he’s good in this role alongside Joel Fry. Then there is the breakout star Dynevor who many will know from a certain Netflix period drama smash. If you like seeing stars outside of their popular roles, seeing her in this is good fun.

If you don’t mind dramadies that move a bit slower, then Bank of Dave is one you’ll enjoy. It’s full of heart and good intentions, and while some of the film is a little too sentimental for my liking, I still appreciate and enjoy quite a lot about this gem of a film.

Content: there isn’t much to note in this PG-13 film. It’s one of the few films that mostly is actually a very appropriate PG-13 rating. There is quite a bit of profanity (mostly British) and one use of the F-word.
