‘AN UNEXPECTED VALENTINE’: A FUN HOLIDAY ROMANCE WITH LACEY CHABERT
The first Valentine’s Day rom-com of Hallmark’s annual Loveuary campaign, An Unexpected Valentine has a familiar face in the lead role. Plus, the plot is pretty cute.
An Unexpected Valentine (2025) TV Film Review
Spending Valentine’s Day with a stranger isn’t on the to-do list Hannah (Lacey Chabert) has. Still, this is what the successful professional finds herself doing when, while taking a shared ride to an event, she discovers an engagement ring, seemingly lost by someone who had special plans on this day of love.
Finn (Robert Buckley) is her driver. Hannah decides it’s their task to find the ring’s owner. She takes this on with more of a romantic approach, his more cynical side sees this as pointless. Still, together, as they race to find the owner of this ring, they discover they may each have something to learn.

In the usual “copy and paste” scenario that I find myself writing anytime I review a Hallmark film, this one is again, cute. It’s rare that I see one that I think fits nicely in the television genre, while also having that “something” unique that gives it an edge. An Unexpected Valentine doesn’t really reinvent anything, but I suspect it may be one of, if not the highest rated in this campaign simply because of its lead. I do have to admit, I really like the dance scene that stays fun versus getting into slow romance.
A favorite with the network, Lacey Chabert has a number of titles to her name on Hallmark. Additionally, she just extended her deal with the network for future films as well as product. Interesting for me was seeing Robert Buckley since he’s someone I’ve liked in more than one rom-com. In this, it’s the same, and I like the “just enough” friction between these two.
As Finn would say, for anyone who enjoys romances or the films in this genre, then this is a gem.
