‘MOTORHEADS’: PRIME VIDEO TAKES ON STREET RACING IN NEW DRAMA
The latest Prime Video to binge drop its release, Motorheads is interesting but also not my kind of show. Still, with its impressive adult stars, and crop of new talent, let’s talk about this new drop.
Motorheads (2025) Prime Video TV Review
Rivalry in a teenager’s life is inevitable. But sometimes rivalry goes beyond just petty fights, sometimes it’s about a desire to win at something. Learning these things, even the hard way, sometimes doesn’t help anyone grow up…
Years pass, and Logan Maddox (Ryan Phillippe) is welcoming his sister-in-law, and her two teenagers who are moving to back to the hometown of their missing father. Samantha (Nathalie Kelley) was once a wild child who is now all grown up working as a nurse and trying to protect them from the outlaw legend that is their father. Caitlyn (Melissa Collazo) has a view to join her uncle in his work with cars, and Zac (Michael Cimino) is drawn into the possibly dangerous world of street racing.
In this new life, which he didn’t want, he meets the awkward but kind Marcel (Nicolas Cantu); along with Harris (Josh Macqueen); Curtis (Uriash Shelton); and Alicia (Mia Healey). On his first day of school, Zac meets Alicia, a pretty girl who catches his eye but is dating Harris. Then there is Harris. A kid who is struggling in his life and living up to the expectations of his dad (Matt Lanter). Meanwhile, Caitlyn finds herself curious about Curtis…

This is a binge release on Prime Video that is marketed towards a young crowd, but for older viewers, it serves to remind us of the Fast and Furious film franchise, which are high-earners. This also isn’t a show that I anticipated finding anything good in. Or more accurately, I didn’t think I’d find much depth. The show, as most do, surprises. Most of the characters are struggling to fit in, somewhere. Whether that’s finding those people who make you feel comfortable or struggling with the reality that family aren’t those people.
Beyond this, the cast is interesting. Ryan Phillippe is an actor the box office has known well. Then there is also Deacon Phillippe, Ryan’s son (with Reese Witherspoon), who co-stars. Nathalie Kelley has also been in several shows through the years (one of her recent being the short-lived Beauty and the Baker). Matt Lanter too is a TV vet (from Timeless) and it’s good fun to see Michael in this after seeing him in the underrated gem Girl Haunts Boy. The cast, which is both experienced and newer faces are really quite good.
In many ways, while the “look” and faces of the characters change, this show is precisely like other popular, and trending shows such as Ransom Canyon or Sweet Magnolias. It has the many characters and the fractured past between characters that causes them to be enemies. It also sets up a mystery as to where one character is, and as a viewer we want to know why he cannot be spoken of. As a result, this may bore some people. Regardless it’s interesting and while there is sometimes way too much drama, Motorheads seems like it sets up to be entertaining. If you like racing stories or just stories that has lots of drama and characters, well, this one might be the ideal thing to watch.
Stream, at publication, the entire ten episode show exclusively on Prime Video

Content: this one seems to set up as being about young people making some not-so-smart decisions (i.e., dangerously racing cars, underage drinking, etc.), and possible romance, but then this is also typical for most teen dramas. There is some violence (mostly fistfights). Teen romances set up (and I’m sure there will be some adult flirtations or affairs, too) and there is the implication of at least one same-sex (if this bothers you) crush / lesbian character. Motorheads is TV-14 / PG-13; note, this content only reflects episodes one and two.
