‘SNOW WHITE’ IS VISUAL FEAST WITH A BANDIT ROMANCE, TOO!
Probably no one escaped the film Snow White. From controversy to nitpick takes, the film was in the headlines on multiple occasions. Delays aside, the film is now available digitally for home viewing, so naturally giving our take is on the agenda.
Snow White (2025) Disney Film Review
A happy childhood is all young Snow White knows. Her parents love her fiercely and her father teaches her the great value of being brave, which her parents see reflected in her kindness. Tragedy strikes when first she loses her mother. Then, when a curious and beguiling woman (Gal Gadot) arrives in the kingdom, Snow gets a stepmother just before her father is taken.
Years pass, Snow White (Rachel Zegler) grows, and waiting on a wish, she dreams of being free from a life where she is treated like nothing better than a servant. When she nearly dies, at the Queen’s behest, Snow escapes into the woods where a new world of danger… and love awaits her.
‘SNOW WHITE’ IS VISUAL FEAST WITH A BANDIT ROMANCE, TOO! #SnowWhite is finally available digitally for home viewing. #Disney #PeriodDrama #FairyTale Share on XThis is one of those remakes that had copious amounts of criticism piled on. From complaints about the way the film portrays certain characters to controversies with the lead actress, this didn’t escape critics. Honestly, the “rinse and repeat” from Barbie (and almost immediately after it, this title did find criticism) is boring. I don’t expect or want everyone to like every film. But the consistent clash of voices saying something like Barbie or Snow White is bad because of x, y or z is, well, tiresome. I’m able to decide for myself whether I enjoy something or not, and I should be treated as if I can.
FILM REVIEW | ‘WICKED’: THE MUSICAL EXTRAVAGANZA EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT

Gal Gadot is brilliant as the Evil Queen. She’s commanding and appropriately chilling. I don’t think I’ve seen Andrew Burnap in anything but he’s fine as a bandit who steals everything as well as perhaps someone’s heart. What’s the best kind of surprise is seeing Ansu Kabia in this (no matter how brief), an actor we all love from the PBS Masterpiece drama Miss Scarlet (fka Miss Scarlet and the Duke). I’m not judging based on technical aspects because I don’t know what makes good effects, but the visuals are lovely, even the scary ones, because they bring to mind the “look” of the 1930s version from Disney.
In a less important note, the opening is darling which sets the stage for nostalgia. There are some favorite songs along with some new ones, too. I’m not entirely sure the drama surrounding this film and I has enough distance (meaning when I read about it to viewing) but I like going into films like this with an open mind. Accomplishing this, I can say, this film is fun. It does give us nostalgia, but of course changes things to suit its whims, too. One example of this is Gadot playing one of her musical numbers with some sense of whimsy which does fit, but also feels a bit odd. Still we roll with it. Another would be the extreme modernism some songs lean into, which does kind of annoy.
If you liked Cinderella, I think you’ll enjoy Snow White. It’s imperfect (and not a favorite ) perhaps, but it ultimately entertains, and I the visuals give nods to the animated version, which is a tribute to the 1937 film.

Content: there isn’t much to note although the film is “dark” in places. There are threats against people like death or being held captive. The film is PG.
