‘HIDE’ TNT MOVIE REVIEW: A GOOD CAST LEADS THIS MYSTERY
One of those lower budget crime drama adaptations, Hide boasts a good cast and is a title I’m assuming was looking for more installments.
Hide (2011) TNT TV Film Review
Grim is a sight Boston detective D.D. Warren (Carla Gugino) knows well. She investigates gruesome crimes and her latest is no exception. The discovery of six women, mummified, has been made and now Warren along with Bobby Dodge (Kevin Alejandro), a man with a new detective’s badge and Alex Wilson (Mark-Paul Gosselaar), an instructor, the team investigates this cold case.
Along the way, they discover that Annabelle Granger (Bridget Regan) is somehow tied to these murders. All while claiming she knows nothing about why her paranoid father moved her around… or changed her identities…
Inspired by a novel by Lisa Gardner, Hide is one of those films that will remind you of the titles from Lifetime’s Nora Roberts collection (which I think were still releasing around this time) or even some of the thrillers that come from studios like Incendo. It has a solid cast though and it was great seeing Carla Gugino as a detective after liking her in a Hallmark Hall of Fame drama (where she falls for a cop) and the 90s BBC adaptation of The Buccaneers. Warren is certainly an interesting albeit not necessarily a unique character and surprisingly, I like that people end up walking away from her.
TV FILM REVIEW | ‘THE DEVIL’S TEARDROP’: FOURTH OF JULY MYSTERY HAS GOOD CAST
‘HIDE’ TNT MOVIE REVIEW: A GOOD CAST LEADS THIS MYSTERY. Review of the 2011 Carla Gugino led #mystery. Share on XI think the idea was to make more films with Warren solving crimes (I don’t see that they ever did), which inevitably would dig more into who she is and why she is this way. But bottom line, I think she’s good at what she does, but she isn’t exactly great at relationships. Sadly, this is a common thread for many crime dramas (the standoffish character) and in more modern times, it kind of swaps the male out for female. (In this scenario, it’s the man who wants more and is a little more “wounded” by being left.)
If you like mysteries, Hide is compelling. It’s about finding truth and of course getting the justice these victims need and deserve while also being, in the background, a kind of limiting character study. Just know, if you like happy endings or absolutes, well this film may not give you this. Sure, the case gets solved, but other matters? Well, those the writer leaves to one’s imagination.
At present, Hide (2011) isn’t available to readily stream; but it does seem to pop on places like Prime Video
Content: some “tense” moments including some threatening another person. People die in the present (these may be a bit graphic or show blood) and past (we see bone remains). Two people are sleeping together and make out in the shower (we glimpse parts of their naked bodies and see them in “shadows”). Someone tries to have sex with another person (conversation only) after a rejection. One character is in a same-sex relationship (if this bothers you). The film is, depending on the day, TV-14, but Amazon also clocks it as being a 16+ rating.
I hadn’t heard of this one.. thanks for sharing.
