REVIEW: Where I first ran across this novel I am not sure, but I’d imagine I found it thanks to my looking into Jane Austen-esque novels in my search for things to include in lists relating to Austen. The book isn’t one I’d heard of prior to this, but by the title alone, I had an inkling it’d be entertaining. Turns out, the book is indeed fun. The story builds on a supporting character from Pride and Prejudice which Jane Austen pens. We meet up with Caroline Bingley in the aftermath of Darcy marrying Elizabeth Bennet, and let’s just say, she’s still adjusting to this reality.

The story also presents us with a Caroline whom we champion which isn’t always true of the version we see in the different adaptations. This book has her as sassy, yes, but also quite intrepid. It’s entertaining to see. If you do read this novel, don’t expect to catch up with the characters you love most which is very purposeful. This is a story that is about characters who don’t get a closeup which additionally includes Georgiana Darcy and to a more limiting extent, Colonel Fitzwilliam, too.

The mystery angle of Caroline Bingley Private Investigator is good fun and seems like it’d make a fun adaptation in the vein of Death at Pemberley. Despite the fact that reading this is a forever challenge (totally a reader error), the story moves fast, and the book seems like an easy read. If you love the world of Pride and Prejudice and cannot get enough, this novel is something unique and different to enjoy; but is also still a story, no matter the alterations, that seems to pay homage to its inspiration. Something I think any avid fan of Austen will be able to respect.
