‘JOY TO THE WORLD’ IS A JOYFUL HULU CHRISTMAS MOVIE

In one of the titles that is sure to sneak up on potential viewers, Joy to the World is a cute, and familiar concept. As its cheerful title would suggest, this is also one of those films that falls into the ideal seasonal romantic-comedy tag.

Joy to the World (2025) Hulu Film Review

Building an impressive business legacy is something Joy Edwards (Emmanuelle Chriqui) is good at. She’s a lifestyle influencer who has more than one cookbook to her name. All of which is fine if it weren’t for the pretend life she’s built to go with her famous name. You see, her story also includes a perfect family and a gorgeous country home. Things get sticky when a TV show wants to film a special at her infamous home.

Now Joy must scramble to produce a loving husband and present a picture perfect life. Enter her best friend Max (Chad Michael Murray). Reluctant at first, Max agrees, but this may end up compounding her complications.

This film is, quite obviously, inspired by the 1940s classic Christmas in Connecticut. However, as someone who loved that one, I cannot say that I mind. In the director’s chair is Jerry Ciccorittin (no stranger to the genre) who most recently directed the controversial (and I have to ask why?) Hot Frosty. The screenwriters are Neal H. Dobrofsky and Tippi Dobrofsky, both of whom are well practiced in this genre including The Reluctant Royal for Hallmark.  Of course, while it’s been a while for Chriqui, the stars genre pros too. Chad Michael Murray headlined last year’s The Merry Gentleman and of course, the millennial viewer will probably always see his roles.

Easy watching is the best ways to describe Joy to the World. Oddly, I didn’t see much promotion for the film so I don’t know how well this will do. It’s not revolutionary within its genre, but it’s adorable and fun and entertaining. If you are looking for something additional to see in Christmas cinema, this one is a great pick. There are lots of giggles, and of course, a romantic connection or two as well.
