‘WHEN A HEART STOPS,’ BY LYNETTE EASON
STORY: Working with dead bodies is all in a day’s work for Serena Hopkins. She’s an ME and isn’t afraid of anything, except maybe her childhood crush, Dominic Allen. The feelings he stirs in her heart frighten Serena like nothing else. Dom is working on stopping a serial killer that looks like the copycat murder of someone was sentenced some twenty years ago. But things become more scary when a pattern sets up and this person picks off former classmates of Dom’s.
REVIEW: This is my first novel by Eason, so I was somewhat skeptical about reading this. That said, I did know my mother enjoyed her books, so the opportunity to review When a Heart Stops popped up, I went for it.
BOOK REVIEW | A Secret to Die For – Fast Paced Mystery and a Reunion Romance
Meet the first novel I ever read by Lynette Eason! ‘WHEN A HEART STOPS,’ BY LYNETTE EASON #FWarchives #BookReviews Share on XIf I thought I’d be disappointed by this story, how mistaken I am! This is one of the best suspense novels I’ve read in ages, second only to (perhaps) Dani Pettrey’s debut. This one has style, and oh-so-much more beneath its glossy, pretty cover. In the suspense genre I find writer’s tend to introduce a dozen or more characters; some of which aren’t more important than a voice on the other end of the line or a tech in a lab. As a reader, for some crazy reason, I prefer the pages be uncluttered by too many characters. Some of my character confusion here is probably in part because I didn’t read book one. While some of this can be overwhelming, I can also say, I’m never underwhelmed.
Because the mystery weaves into an entire series, from the reader perspective, it can be jarring when the books ends and the “real” baddie is still on the loose! That being said, the mystery and chills are top notch. The character’s themselves are wonderful yet both have skeletons. Plus, they’re just cute together; Dom with his protective nature and Serena with her independent streak. Eason has definitely made me a fan with this one, and I look forward to her next books. Like titles that will feature some of the brilliant supporting characters from When a Heart Stops.
CONCLUSION: If you are a fan of any crime procedural like NCIS or Blue Bloods, you will enjoy this pulse-pounding intrigue. It’s one prose not to be missed! Trust me.

Great review!! I also think Miss Pettrey's debut topped this one- but only just. :)
To say I am excited about the upcoming release of Shattered is an understatement, Rosie. I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy and read more about the fabulous McKenna clan. Eason's novel was a fabulous suspense though and I look forward to read book one as well as the third novel. :-)
I am SO glad you liked Lynette's book! I've read this one and her previous series as well (Women of Justice) but my all time favorite book by her is the first in this series: When the Smoke Clears. I can't wait for book 3! :)
I am also, Charity! Loved it – the suspense was fabulous. And like you, I am eager to get the third novel and read Jillian's story.
