A SECRET TO DIE FOR by Lisa Harris | Book Review

STORY | Pain has been the rhythm of recent life for Grace Callahan. In the aftermath of a tragedy that torn apart her life, the last thing her slowly healing heart expects is to be an object of interest to a man bent on nefarious plans. The shadowy figure who’s just broken into her home tells her otherwise.

Detective Nate Quinn doesn’t expect to see Grace again. But soon as he hears her name as a victim in his new case, memories of days past floods his memories. What neither one realize is they’re both very different people now, but before they can explore the changes, first they must uncover what it is Grace knows that a killer wants!

REVIEW | This is only the second or maybe third novel I’ve read by Lisa, but it again entertains. It’s not a favorite, but I appreciate its concise mystery and the sweet character bonds it emphasizes.

TV FILM REVIEW | Hailey Dean: Death on Duty – Amateur Sleuth Solves New Case!

The past between Nate and Grace makes their immediate connection plausible as does the emotional (respective character) plot that draws them towards an understanding of what the other is going through. This story moves at a rapid pace, and keeps us turning those pages. There’s rarely a moment to breath in-between the “acts” that keep us flipping those pages. Just as soon as the characters emerge from one near crisis, another arises that sends one or both in a race for their lives.

If you enjoy the contemporary suspense genre, Lisa Harris’ novels always offer a great story. This one looses some of its emotional impact because of the rapidity of the mystery, but I appreciated the way the characters struggle with their pasts; they have terrible things that plague them, but together and with healing, faith and love, they find a way. The end is also nice in that it’s a time skip which again, puts a realistic expectation on a healthy end, and finds its characters in a better head space, too.

Enjoy A Secret to Die For if you like fast-paced modern mysteries (or thriller?) that keeps the story driving towards its conclusion, and hopefully a happy end. To find out, you must give this novel a read.
