Book Spotlight | Mystery and Suspense Collide in ‘The Cost of Betrayal’

Book Spotlight: Cost of Betrayal

Today, I’m bringing you a spotlight for a new novel to release from a trio of talented suspense authors.

They are powerhouse inspirational authors, Lynette Eason, Dee Henderson and Dani Petterey. Those of you who have read my reviews know I 110% love novels by Lynette Eason and Dani Pettrey. Once upon a time I also loved Dee Henderson’s ‘O’Malley’ family series. Alas, it’s now been a long time since I read these books, but they were favorites at the time.

Why am I putting a spotlight on this novella collection? Well, aside from the fact that it promises to be awesome (because look at these authors!!), it’s also one of the latest novels in the newly formed subscription box from JustRead Tours. If you don’t know what JustRead is, it’s an inspirational subscription box headed up by two of the most talented (and hard working!) Christian fiction blogger’s in this community – Carrie and Annie.

The title of this month’s (September) box is: “The Perfect Hideout.”

Book Spotlight: Cost of Betrayal

As you may have seen earlier, yes, today’s spotlight book is only one you’ll discover inside this box. As to the the second one, well, you’d have to snag a box to discover what it is. Because my lips are sealed. BUT if you do want to discover the second book, and all the fun little goodies that arrive with this book, you can head to the JustRead shop page to snag your own box – and use my code RISSI10 to receive 10% off your subscription!

For today’s ‘Perfect Hideaway’ box tease, let’s take a look at one (!!) of the books you’ll receive.

COST of BETRAYAL:

Book Spotlight: Cost of BetrayalIn Dee Henderson’s novella “Betrayed,” Janelle Roberts is freed–thanks to people she doesn’t know–after serving six years of a twenty-year sentence for a murder she did not commit. But a murderer is still at large, and Janelle needs to be somewhere safe with someone she can trust. She may not survive another betrayal.

In Dani Pettrey’s “Deadly Isle,” Tennyson Kent is trapped on the isolated island of her childhood by a storm surge, and she is shocked when the typically idyllic community turns into the hunting grounds of a murderer. Cut off from any help from the mainland, will she and first love Callen Frost be able to identify and stop a killer bent on betrayal before they become the next victims?

In Lynette Eason’s “Code of Ethics,” trauma surgeon Ruthie St. John saves the life of Detective Isaac Martinez. After a betrayal leads to him getting shot and then attacked while in recovery, Isaac is now a key witness determined to testify. But someone is intent on silencing him–and those around him–forever. Together, Ruthie and Isaac go on the run, desperate to escape the killers hunting him. – Goodreads

As we head into autumn, this seems like the perfect book to pick up and enjoy.

Tell me about your favorite suspense read? Do you like or dislike these kinds of books?

  1. Hallo, Hallo Rissi!

How lovely finding out your hosting your blog with Nose Graze, too! I don’t remember this being the case previously – curiously, I’m finishing reading a novel for review tonight, as the storms finally quit – Summers are not just full of the wrath of seemingly brutal temperatures but they bring such high does of lightning storms! Wrecks a girl’s book blogging spirits after awhile!!

I saw your s/o on Twitter about the #unboxing – clicked to view the YT video and finally found myself back on your lovely blog! The interesting bit for me – is I started reading a heap of #LoveINSPIRED Suspense during *July!* as I was participating in a book blogosphere Summer INSPY reading challenge – one of the authors I was looking forward to reading (but ran out of hours!) was Ms Eason!

I’ve *loved!* Ms Henderson’s stories for most of the last 2+ decades!! I quite literally *devoured!* her first series when it originally was released and I am making my way through the one attached to “Full Disclosure” – which uniquely enough was the very first book review I showcased on my blog! (smiles)

Ms Pettrey’s novels I couldn’t get into via my library, though I tried – until I started a trial with Scribd for audiobooks and noticed, I am appreciating her style better in the audiobook versions! I recently discovered this for another author – where I couldn’t connect to the narrative/characters in a print edition but preferred the audio!? Quirky, but rather keen as it gives me a ‘second chance’ to find a #newtomeauthor! Do you ever find the same!? Do you try reading a story or an author you’ve previously didn’t connect with in a different format!?

I tagged my post for #KayHunter – as I recently listened to my *sixth!* Kay Hunter installment – I would consider this wicked good Suspense though technically its a dramatic crime Thriller!! I’ve been part of #TeamKayHunter since the Spring – where the audiobooks and the series helped me get through some rather trying months.

Overall – its the #LoveINSPIRED Suspense novels I would say are my newest beloved favourites – as their gentler but still have you in the grips of dramatic suspense! I still remember wondering if I could handle some of the twists & surprises in the first few Callahan Confidential series – Lenora Worth & Laura Scott (the series is Ms Scott’s) were the stand-outs in July but I’m starting to pick others up now again – like Elizabeth Goddard whose one of my Mum’s favourites as we’re reading the stories in tandem!

What about you!? Which Suspenseful authors do you crave to read both in mainstream & INSPY?

    1. Hey, Jorie! Again, thanks for the comments. :)

I’m so glad to find another fan of Dee Henderson’s. I loved her O’Malley series and later, her Uncommon Heroes books, too. Dani Pettrey is 110% a favorite, and of course, I enjoy Lynette’s stories as well. Her Elite Guardian series is fantastic! :) I hope this novella collection is also good. (Though I’m sure it is.)

I don’t think I can say that I’ve ever tried a new format for an author who’s book I’m not connecting with. That’s a great idea though – audio books isn’t something I’ve listened to much of. Someday… maybe.

I cannot think of any secular suspense authors I read, though I’m sure I have read one or two. I used to read a TON of Love Inspired suspense, but lately, I’ve been too preoccupied with other reads. Oh, and Kay Hunter is a new-to-me name; I’ll have to look her books up on Amazon. :)
