Ruby Herring Mysteries: Silent Witness – Seek New Clues to the Truth

February 2, 2019 7 Comments

Anytime there’s a new debut on Hallmark (on either of its channels), I’m there for it. Launching a new character for the ‘Movies & Mysteries’ branch is this film. Ruby Herring: Silent Witness is a mystery that asks its viewers to solve a mystery alongside its red-headed heroine!

Ruby Herring Mysteries: Silent Witness (2019) Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Review

While preparing for her sister’s wedding, the last thing Ruby Herring (Taylor Cole) expects to be caught in is the scene of a murder. But as she and her sister spend the morning hiking, that’s exactly what happens. A consumer reporter, ingrained in Ruby’s DNA is a bit of the sleuthing gene. This is thanks to her father (Shawn Christian), who is an investigative reporter legend.

As she gathers clues, she tries to work beside the investigating detective Jake Killian (Stephen Huszar). A Seattle transplant, who’s laser focused on this case, Jake is none-too-happy to have a nosy reporter asking questions

Anytime there’s a new mystery series from Hallmark, it’s something my mother anticipates. As a mystery-fiction-reading-aficionado, she enjoys a good television mystery as much. This new debut from our favorite network is entertaining, but I don’t think it’s my most favorite.

TV SHOW REVIEW | The Good Cop Netflix – A Quiet But Funny Drama

I always like to see Taylor Cole in a new film; anyone who watches these networks will recognize her as she appears in many of their romantic-comedy originals. It’s also an unexpected surprise to see Shawn Christian as Cole’s titular character’s father. Throwing it way back (which just shows you how long I’ve been fangirl addicted to Christmas films), he appeared in the TV film Undercover Christmas with Jamie Gertz.  The script has a fun playful nature with its play on our heroine’s name; a perfect homage to the classic “red herring” phrase.

It’s always fun to find little trivia facts about movies, and this one is that Shawn is Taylor’s stepfather. This makes their on-screen father-daughter connection all the more sweet. If you’ve liked Hallmark’s prior cozy mystery efforts like Aurora Teagarden or Gourmet Detective (my favorite!), then you’ll likely enjoy Ruby Herring Mysteries. There’s a new sleuth to gather all the clues with, and it’s a fun riddle to unscramble.
