The Chronicle Mysteries: Recovered: Unique Career Seeks New Answers
In recent years, Hallmark has really expanded their ‘Movies and Mysteries’ banner. They continue this trend with another new limited series. It debuts its first installment with The Chronicle Mysteries: Recovered.
The Chronicle Mysteries: Recovered (2019) Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Review
For her latest true crime podcast series, Alex McPherson (Alison Sweeney) decides it’s time to look into the disappearance of one of her old friends. 20 years later, she doesn’t expect anything to be easy, but she determines to find the answers no one else has. This means, Alex and her podcast travel back to her roots.
Once there, she sets up at the local newspaper where the editor, Drew Goddard (Benjamin Ayres) is instructed to give Alex access, without restriction, to their archives. The deeper she digs, the more possible clues she finds; but she also learns that those closest to Gina seem to be keeping secrets that just might help her in her investigation.
This new limited series isn’t one I knew much about prior to see the promotional images on a press web page. At present, it’s set to be a three-part limited series of films that will air over three weeks. The first is ‘Recovered,’ and as its synopsis reveals, it follows a cold case murder without any new investigation trails.
TV FILM REVIEW | Mystery 101 – Meet the New Sleuths on the Block!
If you watch this channel, you’ll recognize Alison as a previous Hallmark sluether. In her prior role she played a lovable, but nosy baker on the ‘Murder She Baked’ series of films. I think I like those better than this new series; but there is still plenty to enjoy about this first mystery.
As each of these mysteries do, the characters are likable. Much as I like the cop-civilian pair up for a mystery, it’s also nice that neither leads are in law enforcement. Alex’s career is also an interesting one. It makes this mystery “feel” a bit different because of what she does. She and Benjamin don’t have the best chemistry, but then again, I’m willing to say this may evolve over the series, and they do have a nice moment nearer the end.
Speaking of the end, the climax builds with some tension that will leave you holding your breath! Between the cold case, and the supporting newspaper characters, The Chronicle Mysteries is entertaining. It’s also sure to leave you curious for what Alex will next investigate.
Don't miss the debut of #Hallmark Movie's NEW limited mystery series. #AlisonSweeney stars in #TheChronicleMysteries: Recovered – Unique Career Seeks New Answers Share on X‘Recovered’ airs tonight, February 17th on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries.
