‘The Christmas Waltz’: A Magical Love Story with Lacey Chabert
The popular Lacey Chabert returns to what now seems her “permanent” acting home, Hallmark Channel. One of the actresses with the most Christmas films to her name, this year, Chabert has not one but two under the Hallmark umbrella. The Christmas Waltz is the first.
The Christmas Waltz (2020) Hallmark TV Film Review
Planning a storybook Christmas wedding is what consumes the life of Avery (Chabert) outside of work. As the final days until her ‘I do’ approach, Avery makes the final preparations, ready to begin her life with David. Only it turns out, he’s not so certain as she is. This ends their engagement and leaves Avery’s with a series of dance lessons for their wedding dance that now, well, she doesn’t need.
Nonetheless, the kind studio owner, Roman (Will Kemp) asks Avery to consider keeping the lessons as something to do for herself. The more Avery dances, the more she rediscovers a former part of her she thought was lost…
TV FILM REVIEW | ‘The Christmas Bow’: A Sweet Romance with Music in its Soul
Directed by Michael Damian, this team of Damian and Hallmark is a blast from the past. He’s the director of A Princess for Christmas (sometimes known as Christmas at Castlebury Hall), a film from nine years ago that I will say, I still love. On that project he also serves as a co-writer which is also true of The Christmas Waltz. Basically he does a bit of everything (director, producer, writer) alongside his business partner and wife Janeen.
Speaking of return partnerships, you’ll not just recognize Lacey Chabert, but avid Hallmark fans will also remember she and Will Kemp as co-stars in Love, Romance and Chocolate. Given the film’s topic, which is dance, there is plenty of romantic cues and things with all of the elegantly staged and put together dance sequences (and they are lovely) that also serve to show the passage of time. Plus, the opening credits are pretty.
In the end, The Christmas Waltz is a lovely story. It creates pretty images and makes me like it more knowing the behind-the-screen talent. It’s a lovely way to spend an evening.
