‘A Glenbrooke Christmas’: Secrets Help to Form New Romance

Reuniting former co-stars is something Hallmark does on occasion if the couple is a fan favorite. A Glenbrooke Christmas is one that goes this route, and it’s pretty cute.

A Glenbrooke Christmas (2020) Hallmark TV Film Review

About to take over the legacy her grandfather and father built, businesswoman Jessica Morgan (Autumn Reeser) decides, just before Christmas, she has one last journey to make. Before she officially takes the reigns of the multi-million dollar company, Jessica decides to become “just” Jessica and visit the hometown of her mother, and stay in the childhood home she lived in.

What Jessica doesn’t expect is to meet Kyle Buchanan (Antonio Cupo). A fireman with experience living in the city, Kyle is happy in this small Colorado town, but meeting Jessica makes him re-think the state of his present life.

A Glenbrooke Christmas is a Hallmark original “inspired by” (a way better turn of phrase than “based on”) the novel Secrets by Robin Jones Gunn, this film is vastly different, but still a nice watch. Instead of a scared 25-something who knows what she wants, but doesn’t know how to stand up for it, Jessica is a mature, grown up businesswoman who is good at what she does. It’s an interesting change, but quite unlike the novel. Still, I admire how the writers work in “enough” to recognize the plot, while still being its own story.

TV FILM REVIEW | ‘USS Christmas’: An American Romance from Hallmark

What may delight potential viewers more than anything is the reunion of Autumn Reeser and Antonia Cupo. They, of course, appear together in early days Hallmark, which is the film Love at the Thanksgiving Day Parade. They were all kinds of cute in that film, and while this is a different kind of “romance,” they’re still cute; the I-don’t-like-you meet-cute game is still pretty good. Plus, it harms nothing that our hero is a fireman.

Don’t expect this to have the emotion of Secrets (the novel), but A Glenbrooke Christmas still have charms and likable characters, which is always something anyone can enjoy.
