‘RESCUED BY RUBY’: ONE HIDDEN NETFLIX GEM THAT INSPIRES

CW star Grant Gustin stars in Rescued by Ruby, a film housed on Netflix. It’s one that’s easy to sit back and enjoy. And yes, the script gets in a nod to his Barry Allen character.

Rescued by Ruby (2022) Netflix Film Review

Biding his time is what Daniel O’ Neal (Gustin) has done for eight years. For these many years, the state trooper who excels at nearly everything he trains for, the one thing he misses qualifying for is the K-9 unit. The high strung and nervous sort, Daniel isn’t kind of person the unit head (Scott Wolf) wants on his team. A team that requires calm and cool. Plus there isn’t funding for another canine.

Used to working ten times harder, Daniel isn’t ready to give up. He has one last shot, per the rulebook, to make the unit. Never wanting anything more than this professionally. With a growing family and a solid work ethic, Daniel is ready to take on this challenge.

Rare though it is to find something that’s one of those feel good movies that’s reason you cannot describe, Rescued by Ruby is one of them. The script is inspired by true events and this is easily one of the more inspiring flicks filmmakers are making these days. There’s heartwarming moments and connections.

Grant Gustin is good in this and it’s fun to see him outside a superhero role. He plays the same sort of character as an earnest person wanting to do good. The play the script puts in about Daniel wishing to be a superhero is also cute too. The rest of the cast is good and while not many are recognizable, the scenes between everyone are good and helps to foster a solid and likable group.

The film has good family values and will appeal to anyone who likes animals. There’s a lot about this film that feels like one of those popular Godwink moments and while some of the film may be more dramatized than its real counterpart, it’s still a pleasant thing to watch. Rescued by Ruby is something easy to recommend and a good flick for families with older kids to enjoy.

You can stream the film exclusively on Netflix

Content: This one has a TV-PG rating and doesn’t abuse it. There’s some conversation about euthanizing an animal. But there’s nothing to mention beyond this.
