Recently Amazon Prime released Shotgun Wedding. A comedy thatis perhaps the craziest of its leading star’s career. But beyond this, what does this movie have in store for you?

Anxiety free, which may mean no family, is the dream wedding Darcy (Jennifer Lopez) envisiosn. What she gets is a perfectionist fiancé who is more concerned about centerpieces than listening to her elopment plans. It’s a destination wedding that she currently finds herself a part of and is where family descends, rivals fester and exes crash the party.
But while Tom (Josh Duhamel) listens to Darcy express her worry and anxiety on the day of their wedding, he begins to believe she has cold feet. After all, she’s done this before. However their tiff has to wait when they discover that pirates have taken their entire wedding party and family hostage while they contemplate their future. Now it’s up to them to save everyone, if not their day!

One the films that hit some production snags including the replacing of its leading male, Shotgun Wedding is something that’s been in production for a while. Question that we have to answer is whether it’s worth the wait. For the most part, the film is entertaining. I think it actually runs a little too long for the type of film and script we get. There’s only so many times we can see the dumb luck these two have in getting away with what they get away with. All that to say, there’s still fun to experience.
It’d be a fib if I said I didn’t laugh throughout this. One hundred percent, I did. Still the film leans into an annoying cultural trend and additionally, doesn’t allow for much serious introspect or getting to know the characters. We do have a good conversation between Darcy and Tom pre the chaos, and of course, even dodging bad dudes, they share moments. There’s a sweet moment where they have this “knowing” that they wouldn’t leave the other.
The cast is fun and also has Jennifer Coolidge who I know many like as a comedy actor. If you don’t mind the violence and profanity, Shotgun Wedding can be fun. It’s not the traditional “romance” you are used to seeing Lopez in. So if you like her earlier films, this may not be for you. Otherwise, saying it’s fun is really all we have.

Content: Lots of f-words which is likely the primary reason for the R-rating. There are also other milder profanities like sh*t, etc. There’s reference to a sex object and other innuendo. A woman strips to a cropped tee and panties while trying to seduce a man with a seductive pose. They make out. There’s violence including a grenade hitting human targets, a man going up in flames, someone falls back onto a rock and (audibly) cracks his head. There’s also any other number of ways people are beat up/die. Men shoot weapons and threaten people with them. There’s various explosions.

It was fun! I watched most of it, but didn’t finish it all in one night, so I just started it again. Definitely fun. :)
