‘THE PERFECT PAIRING’: A WINTER ROMANCE OF SECOND CHANCES

With a cast that’s familiar and a plot that reaches, The Perfect Pairing will still charm network viewers.

The Perfect Pairing (2022) Hallmark Film Review

Keeping her identity secret is important for Christina aka CJ (Nazneen Contractor). Working as a food and wine critic means anonymity is her friend. When she travels for work and accidentally ends up at a winery where she once wrote a bad review, in her hurry to get out of there, she slips and much to everyone’s surprise, she develops a form of amnesia. the perfect pairing

From there, owner Michael Hollingbrook (Brennan Elliott) and his family take Joy in. All willing to help her find some sliver of her past, little realizing that the kindness they’re showing her is actually to the woman who played a role in the downturn of business.

I’m not sure why, but movies centering on wine seem to be a popular backdrop for films from Hallmark. This is the third or fourth I’ve seen in close proximity though how close they originally aired, that I didn’t check. This one is a little more unique because it’s set during winter and there’s a plan to create something from frozen grapes. But outweighing this uniqueness is the sillier trope of amnesia. In some movies I don’t mind it, but in this one it’s not something I think really works.

Normally I like Nazneen since first seeing her in a Canadian crime drama. In this I don’t love her as much. Not sure if it’s the role (she plays a professional well) or just the way she plays it, but either way, it’s not a favorite of hers. Those who frequently watch the network will recognize the faces of the rest of the cast, and will find the leading man a favorite I am sure. the perfect pairing

I think in combination of the other minor things I didn’t love about this, the drama is too much as well. There’s the typical “breakup” period and the romance never really does much prior to this, so the extent of the hurt feels too much. That said, despite my feelings, The Perfect Pairing will still or probably already has, find its key audience and I’m sure charms many viewers.

Content: TV-G is The Perfect Pairing‘s rating, and outside of a few kisses, and someone already in a relationship, the film is the usual Hallmark Channel fare.
