‘THE SECRET GIFT OF CHRISTMAS’: FIND THE PERFECT GIFT OF THE SEASON

One of the final 2023 Christmas premieres of this season, The Secret Gift of Christmas is all about a bubbly heroine and a slightly jaded hero.

The Secret Gift of Christmas (2023) Hallmark Film Review

Working in a career where her perky cheeriness is a pro, Bonnie Parker (Meghan Ory) is a personal shopper in her busiest time of year. Her client list is long but she always has the insight she needs to find the person just the right gift. A new client finds her in the form of Patrick (Christopher Russell), a contractor who isn’t quite sure what to gift the people on his list.

Enter Bonnie, the woman who, with her flamboyant style, couldn’t be more opposite Patrick’s sensible aptitude. As Bonnie checks off her lists and Patrick reconnects with Christmas, both learn something about themselves they didn’t realize.

Exceptionably cute, The Secret Gift of Christmas is also one of the more girly movies from the network’s Christmas campaign. This because of Bonnie’s frilly style and her cheerfulness, which is here to directly contrast Patrick’s more jaded personality. While I think this story is darling and the cast adds familiarity because of how popular the stars are on Hallmark, the film isn’t quite polished.

The opening, while cute, is a little silly and while I understand what it’s setting up, I think the film could have done this better. There’s also a slight ADR hiccup though it could have been my streaming app too. The styling of Bonnie isn’t always my favorite, but it is fun to see Meghan play such a drastically different role from Abby on Chesapeake Shores.

Charming with an oversimplified message about things that matter versus “wants,” The Secret Gift of Christmas is a flick sure to make you smile and gives us a cute ending, too.
