‘AN EASTER BLOOM’ IS A HALLMARK ROMANCE THAT’S UNIQUE

A rare plot for Hallmark to take on, An Easter Bloom is sweet but also fumbles… just a bit. It follows Amanda (Aimee Teegarden), a gardener who enters a competition with the goal of saving her family’s farm. Along the way, she meets Derrick (Benjamin Hollingsworth). A pastor, Derrick isn’t a man without scars in his past, but unlike Amanda, he leans into his faith.

Together, this unexpected pair may rediscover the true meaning of hope and what it looks like to trust without question.

A film that’s been anticipated by hardcore Hallmark fans for a while now, An Easter Bloom is also a title that is more unusual than normal for the network. They’ve had films with themes of faith here and there (in fact, this writer, Michael Grimm, did pen last year’s The Blessing Bracelet), but as a rule, they don’t tend to produce many like this. While the film is sweet, which is true of most, it does lean a little into stereotypes of Christianity.

To be fair, it isn’t just this film though. Most if not all films that actually use Christianity in a more open way do this. It’s just a little exhausting to see because this then tends to lessen the impact or importance of the message. In the case here, it’s about having hope, and ultimately, faith. an easter bloom

That all said, the film does also surprise. I enjoy Aimee in these films, and this one is not any different. It’s also fun to see Benjamin Hollingsworth return in these since he’s not a consistent regular, and I’ve loved him since his hero from Lucky in Love. The film does put a few poignant and important lessons and truths into its script, and I respect that. The end is also sweet, even with the background fail, there’s still that lovely aww moment that is a hallmark of this network.

Content: nothing to note that is “unusual” in An Easter Bloom‘s TV-G rating.
