‘LOVE & GELATO’ IS NETFLIX ROMANCE ABOUT FINDING YOUR PLACE
Adapted from the young adult novel of the same name, it’s been a long time coming, but finally I watched Love and Gelato.
Love and Gelato (2022) Netflix TV Film Review
Going to Italy the day after saying goodbye to her mother for the final time isn’t what Lina (Susanna Skaggs) wants to be doing. In fact, it’s the last thing she wants. She wants to be close to her best friend rather than spending her graduation trip with friends of her mother in Italy who are strangers to Lina. Still, Francesca (Valentina Lodovini) and Howard (Owen McDonnell) are kind. Despite this, Lina doesn’t really know why she’s here. There are cute boys (Tobia De Angelis, Saul Nanni), an old camera from her mom and a dairy that walks her through the life her mother had…
TV FILM REVIEW | ‘A FAMILY AFFAIR’ IS HAPPY AND HILARIOUS NETFLIX COMEDY
‘LOVE & GELATO’ IS NETFLIX ROMANCE ABOUT FINDING YOUR PLACE. Review of the #Netflix adaptation of the Jenna Evans Welch novel. Share on XAnyone who likes silly movies set in a fun location, because let’s be real who doesn’t love the idea of visiting a place like Italy, will enjoy Love and Gelato. The film is full of color and cuteness, and a cast that we don’t really know, which means it’s a kind of “blank slate” for the discovery of these characters and who they may be. At least when it comes to the expectation.
While database user ratings don’t seem kind to this film, which on one hand I understand, I still think it’s cute. Inspired by the novel by Jenna Evans Welch, of the same title, this script is actually quite different. Something that does take me by surprise. I think some of the changes are very purposeful (meaning they’re for a specific reason) while others I think didn’t “need” to change. Still, this does allow for more fun since we get to see more of Addie thanks to one change. The story is simple and there’s some things about the production that I don’t think get the polish they deserve, but overall, the story is nice.
The one thing that may annoy viewers most is the love triangle. I actually think it works relatively well and fits for this story. Plus, I’ll confess, I oddly didn’t loathe the dude we’re asked to hate, and surprisingly, did think he deserved a fair shake. Perfect, lighthearted summertime viewing, Love and Gelato is a nice watch if you want something wholesome feeling.
You can stream this film exclusively with Netflix

Content: nothing much to note. A girl talks about being shy with guys and not having any experience dating. There’s conversation about a past relationship and it ending badly. A person shuns someone else and wants nothing to do with them. There is an implication that a guy is a player. There may be some usual or minor PG-13 profanity.
