With a group of six hour-long episodes, Whitstable Pearl series three partners up Pearl Nolan with DCI (aka Detective Chief Inspector) Mike McGuire again in the Acorn TV show that’s always good.

Talk of putting on a local production of The Sound of Music is causing equal parts laughter and annoyance inside the happy walls of Pearl Nolan’s restaurant. Her boyfriend is putting on the production and while young waitress Ruby (Isobelle Molloy) is the ideal nominee by Peal (Kerry Godliman). However, it’s Pearl’s mother who thinks she’s the only one to play the role. Into this cheerfulness walks Mike (Howard Charles). Gone for three months, the detective and man who with whom Pearl shares a mutual affection for, is finally back.
But before Pearl learns where he’s been, a short time later a woman with a severe head injury walks through the doors, and reports that she saw a woman on the beach, one who’s been missing for nearly ten years.

Yet, for some reason, I think I’m surprised anew each time I see a new season. I love this show so much, and in part I think this is owing all too the superb performances of its leading stars. Kerry and Howard continue to challenge not only a viewer (in the best of ways), but also their characters. I love the interactions and bond between them. The kind of “slow burn” (I hesitate using this term because I think this relationship is anything but mainstream, and many trope terms are) bond between them is stunning. I don’t think I can say exactly what it is, but I know it’s good, and I thought so from the first.
TV SHOW REVIEW | ‘MURDER IN A SMALL TOWN’ IS IDEAL FOR ANYONE WHO LIKES INTERNATIONAL DRAMA
There are many other things to recommend this show too like the setting (it’s rustic and “stark” but beautiful) and the mysteries are always interesting because of, surprising though this may sound, the emotion that drives them. While the formula (partners who like each other while solving mysteries) is familiar, there is a quality to this show others don’t have. It’s soft and harsh, romantic and emotional all in one fell swoop. In short, it’s good.
If you don’t care for a slower pace drama, then this may not be for you, but if you’re a fan of International dramas or shows like Midsomer Murders, then this is certainly a TV show you’ll want to watch as it releases its third season collection of episodes.

Content: Please note, I didn’t screen the entire season, but if what I saw was an indication, it’s on par with prior seasons. There’s much talk about death or murder or loss, and emotional strife. People feel guilty about things and consider hurting others or themselves. The series rates TV-14.
