TV SHOW REVIEW | ‘BLACKSHORE’: A DARK IRISH DETECTIVE DRAMA WITH SECRETS
‘LONG BRIGHT RIVER’: SEE AMANDA SEYFRIED IN THIS GRITTY DRAMA. #LongBrightRiver is now streaming on #PeacockTV. Have you seen this #AmandaSeyfried mystery. Share on XThis isn’t the first time Seyfried has played a sister with a case that is personal. In the feature Gone she plays a woman haunted by her abduction who faces it all over again when no one in law enforcement believes he’s back, only this time he has her sister. This is a dark and gritty show that is wisely a binge release (meaning we can watch the entire story all at once). I’ve only watched the first two episodes, but the limited series is gripping. The first episode opens brilliantly and hooks the viewer.
From the performances to the story, which is based on the novel by Liz Moore (who also EPs and writes the show), this is a solid production. Amanda proves that she’s multi-talented through the varied roles she’s had through the years. From light-hearted and charming to a role like this where she’s tough, but also scared, she plays Mickey well (and her unique conversations with her son are interesting). Also in the cast is Nicholas Pinnock, Callum Vinson and Ashleigh Cummings.
If you don’t hate gritty dramas or stories that get messy (in a dark kind of way), then you will probably like Long Bright River. It’s interesting and I have a feeling that a twist or two will crop up as I finish the final six episodes.
Stream, at publication, Long Bright River on Peacock
Content: the show is dark and we see bodies because of the subject. There are many f-words along with shit. People do drugs. The show is TV-MA. Note: this is based only on the first two episodes.
