‘BLACKSHORE’: A DARK IRISH DETECTIVE DRAMA WITH SECRETS
Another drama from Acorn TV, Blackshore is a darker series about a detective trying to reclaim her career. DI Fia Lucey (Lisa Dwan) wants her life back. But one wrong choice after another leads to her suspension from her otherwise stellar career in Dublin. This means she returns to Blackwater, a place she did once call her home town.
While there, dark secrets protect a new case that includes a missing person, and forces Fia to face a past that has been disrupting her present.
Another in a long line of well-produced dramas, Acorn TV is home to the U.S. debut of Blackshore, and from all that I can tell (there are only two episodes available), the show is quite good. The show has the same kind of format which is to give us a lead with some dark secrets, but it’s also a really good story that has a compelling background.
TV SHOW REVIEW | ‘REACHER,’ SEASON THREE: THE LONE WOLF HERO RETURNS FOR NEW CASE
‘BLACKSHORE’: A DARK IRISH DETECTIVE DRAMA WITH SECRETS. In the U.S., you can now stream #Blackshore on #AcornTV. Don’t miss this compelling and gritty drama. Share on XBased on those two episodes, the show follows the same mystery (through six episodes) about a missing woman who connects to a murder case. Then there’s the past mystery that haunts Fia which ties the episodes in terms of the characterization. The characters have dark pasts, or we get the impression they do, which affects their present and causes emotional upheaval. Fia in particular is a character we want to know more about. The other characters too interest us as we question if their motives are good, or well, less than.
If you like dark or grittier dramas, this one is worth seeing. It made its U.S. debut with Acorn TV, and if first impression is an indication, it’s easy to get caught up in.
Stream, at publication, Blackshore on Prime Video with an Acorn TV add on or on Acorn.TV with a subscription; episodes one and two are available, and the final four episodes will release weekly on Mondays
Content: the show deals with dark topics from the murder of a teenager by an older man (in the past) to rape (which is revealed at the end of episode two and may become a bigger story thread). There is also murder and while we don’t know “why,” we do know a girl is being kept (though maybe not against her will, we aren’t sure) in a trailer. The f-word is used often. The show rates TV-MA.
