THE BUCCANEERS return

If you liked Apple TV+’s reimagining of the Edith Wharton novel The Buccaneers, season two now has a release date. The season will drop on June 18, and wrap with “one new episode every Wednesday” on August 6, 2025. The show relies heavily on modern ideals, and for me, doesn’t strike the right balance between being “new” and keeping us still in the period in which its set (part of this is the story, yes, but the music which is very modern). Below is the very splashy save the date teaser.

Still, I will give season two a chance which the presser says will bring back “the buccaneers — Kristine Frøseth as Nan St. George, Alisha Boe as Conchita Closson, Aubri Ibrag as Lizzy Elmsworth, Josie Totah as Mabel Elmsworth and Imogen Waterhouse as Jinny St. George. Emmy Award nominee Christina Hendricks is Mrs. St. George, with Mia Threapleton as Honoria Marable.” Leighton Meester will also join as a new character this time, and Greg Wise, who starred in the 90s BBC version, also joins! Will you be watching?

LAST THINGS

Hallmark is dipping its toes into limited seasonal serials. Last year, the network did debut the Hallmark+ Holidazed. This coming 2025 Christmas season, according to reports, they will adapt the novel 12 Dates of Christmas into a limited six episode series with Mae Whitman, Jane Seymour, Nathanial Parker, and Mary McDonnell. The novel is by Jenny Bayliss, and according to the reports, it will debut on the Hallmark Channel during the Countdown to Christmas campaign with the presumed next-day streaming on Hallmark+. The show is filming in Ireland. According to the Goodreads page for the novel, the story follows “thirty-four-year-old Kate Turner [who] is ready to say Bah, humbug. [Then] her best friend signs her up for a dating agency that promises to help singles find love before the holidays. Twenty-three days until Christmas. Twelve dates with twelve different men. […] Yet with each new date more disastrous than the one before […].”

If you love the NCIS world, and in particular Sam Hanna, well, you’ll be seeing him again in the April 21st episode of the original show, NCIS. This according to the shows Instagram page where a post simply captioned “Like no time has passed. 👏👏😎😎” has a video of Hanna’s portrayer LL Cool J revealing his return.

If you enjoyed the Canadian comedy (full on an ABC Castle concept) Private Eyes, then you’ll love knowing that a new, reimagined show, with the same leads, is coming. According to a press release, “Canadian Stars Jason Priestley and Cindy Sampson to Reprise Their Roles of Matt Shade and Angie Everett in Private Eyes Spinoff.” The original show aired from 2018 – 2021 and had Priestley and Sampson playing unlikely partners (he’s a former pro hockey star, she’s a private detective). This show will put them in a new location and will be titled Private Eyes: West Coast. According to the press release, this show will see “Matt Shade (Jason Priestley) and Angie Everett (Cindy Sampson) leading surprisingly different lives in Victoria, B.C. With a group of new friends, and fresh faces to help them.” This series is coming from Lionsgate Canada and Piller/Segan.
