‘AURORA TEAGARDEN MYSTERIES: DEATH AT THE DINER’ ONE SMART SLEUTH MAKES A RETURN!
Part of a “reboot” type film set, Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Death at the Diner is the first I’ve seen in this (so far) trio of movies. While it’s not my cup of tea, it is entertaining.
Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Death at the Diner (2024) Film Review
Having solved a mystery or two at this point, Aurora Teagarden (Skyler Samuels) has a bit of confidence in her ability to sus out curious happenings. The diner where she is working now suddenly becomes a crime scene when a murder takes place. Things go from good to, well, bad when her boyfriend, Daniel (Jordan Buhat) becomes suspect!
This sends her and Sally (Kayla Heller) on the trail of clues all while local cop and friend, Arthur (Evan Roderick) continues to press Aurora into letting the professionals handle things.

If you’ve read here for a while you know that I have little need for stories that revisit the past when we’ve already seen the “future.” In the case of the Teagarden mysteries there are nearly twenty (or so) movies about an older Aurora with an entirely different (with exception to one) cast. These movies look at Aurora’s younger life pre (or at least less) librarian working, cannot-meet-the-one days. In these, she’s a post college student who solves murders with a young Arthur and Sally. I’m not sure what the network’s plans are for these, but if they decide (or have) to rewrite everything about the “future” life of this character then there is potential. But if the timeline is going to be the same or it’s meant to be the same world, well, this I don’t care for.
Having aired my grievances, I will say, everyone is good in their respective rules. We see the return of Henner playing Aurora’s mom (from the earlier films with Niall Matter and Candance Cameron Bure); and it’s nice to see Evan Roderick play the role of possible-boyfriend Arthur. The film also stacks up a few other familiar Hallmark faces which has become common practice (casting multiple fan favorites in one film) for the network.
I don’t know if I’ll watch the other films in this newer franchise or would watch any possible future titles. Still, this film does entertain and sometimes that’s a big cinematic win!

Content: The film starts with a murder and a person staggering around with a knife in his back. The camera shows nothing graphic (no blood). If you like Hallmark mysteries, this one is the same as others. The film is TVG / PG.
