Trying their hand at an epic kind of love story to span decades is the fan favorite network Hallmark. The tale they do this in is the three-part Providence Falls, a story based on the novels by Jude Deveraux and Tara Sheets. The story is primarily about this time spanning romance, but also has hints of mystery and looks at what the choices we make mean. This inspires the latest favorite love story feature which is to spotlight the Providence Falls love story of Cora and Liam.

A thief and less genteel gentleman, meeting Cora changes Liam. He’s better because of her and in time the pair plan to run away. Then tragedy strikes and in their escape, Cora falls to a tragic death. Then centuries later, Liam is given a chance to set things right. Put the reincarnated Cora, a detective who doesn’t know Liam, with the man she is fated to be with, Finn, or forever anger the angles.

THE BREAK – IN aka THE MEET-CUTE
The Movie: Part One, Chance of a Lifetime
While meeting Cora as her modern-day reincarnated self isn’t exciting (it’s a crime scene!), back in the 1800s when they fall in love, Cora and Liam meet after the rogue breaks into Cora’s home and catching him in the act, she holds a sword (!!) to him. The pair talk and Cora comes to find that he may be able to help her. Living a very sheltered life, she wants to learn more about the world, and Liam seems like the man who can do this.
…scenes then show them spending time together, reading and laughing, sharing deep conversations and eventually, yes, a stolen kiss or two! The sequence is sweet and does a nice job showing the passage of time in a story that needs to progress and show the origins of a love story that asks us to believe is worth spanning centuries.
STOLEN MOMENT
The Movie: Part One, Chance of a Lifetime
While working an angle at a grand ball, Liam sees Cora attending with Finn, the proper fate match she’s supposed to marry. During a brief stolen moment, Cora slips out of the ballroom to meet Liam out back where in her dazzling ballgown and under the moonlight, the two share a sweet kiss.
While it may not be the series most romantic scene, I did have to include this because we see Cora in her ballroom finery and that alone can up the romanticism because of its prettiness. But let’s be honest, the firelit mood lighting hurts nothing either.
THE RESCUE
The Movie: Part Two, An Impossible Promise
While investigating a murder case together, and in a series of events that mirrors their respective past, Liam learns that Cora may be in danger. Rushing to her rescue he arrives just in time to see a baddie cause her to fall into a body of water. Immediately, Liam jumps in after her and carrying her from the water, gently he sets her on the ground and cradles her. Asking her to come back to him. When she does, caught up in the moment of their present and past, he gently kisses her….
Stars seem to be aligning and in spite of everything, it would seem the pair are meant to be.
But then, as she recovers, he learns that in order to fulfill her destiny, she needs someone truly good by her side.
THE TRUTH and a RESCUE
The Movie: Part Three, Thief of Fate
Cora keeps having recurring dreams with Liam, but they seem more than dreams; they seem like a memory. But no one will tell her the truth. This inspires her to confront Liam and trying to be honorable, and nudge her towards her destiny, which he knows doesn’t include him, he resists.
After an unsuccessful candlelit dinner (this scene though, it is swoony!) that Cora makes, all in hopes of convincing him to tell her what really happened, Cora finally remembers. She knows everything including what she feels for him is real. Liam then fills in any missing pieces, and still he will step aside to ensure Cora does great things, first he selfishly takes the night and the pair lay out under the stars. In this bubble, they are happy to be reunited in such a way that both remember their life and love story.
There is more to their love story, but not before a bit of danger nearly threatens that happy ending. Part of this is a threat to Liam, not just his safety but also his chance to live and love Cora well. Impassioned and never surer of her and Liam, Cora makes a case for him staying, repaying Liam’s rescuing of her. By this, the pair is established as one who knows they are partners in every way, including understanding that they each have strengths which makes them easy to root on as a forever and always couple.
