THE POP CULTURE NEWS BULLETIN 208
The Pop Culture News Bulletin is a weekly roundup of the recent and trending news stories in the entertainment industry or stories that fall into the pop culture subcategory. Every Friday we feature stories that fit the content we frequently cover.
THE SUMMER still to come
In news that does sort of disappoint me, Jenny Han and Prime Video reveal that its Wednesday The Summer I Turned Pretty finale is, in fact, not its finale. The franchise will continue with a film that, according to Han, is going to cover “another big milestone left in Belly’s journey” that the show simply couldn’t do justice to. Already speculation is on this being Belly’s wedding day.

Presumably the main cast will return to tie up any loose ends in Belly’s life. The final chapter in the love story will be about Belly and (as she chooses) Conrad. According to a press release, the streamer says this film will have “the story continues the final chapter of Belly’s journey”; which I hope is accurate since I like the idea of this story ending in concordance with Han’s novels.
No release date timeframe has been given.
LAST THINGS
According to a report, MGM+ has picked up a four part adaptation from the BBC of the Charles Dickens novel A Tale of Two Cities. The adaptation will feature Kit Harrington and Mirren Mack. The Dickens novel takes place in the 1700s during the French and British war.
As we know, a fifth season of the Acorn TV cozy mystery Harry Wild, with Jane Seymour as the titular private detective, will return in 2026. Production has started which follows news of the previously announced two part feature special set to drop in November. Part of season four, this special will be a two part show that will follow up on the American mystery tease. The cliffhanger was that this would move to Vicky and Cormac’s wedding where Harry must work with the FBI. Season five will bring back key cast including Rohan Nedd and Kevin Ryan plus will introduce a new character in Joe Lando, who we know was Seymour’s costar in the 90s drama Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman. The press release reveals that “Season 5 will consist of six episodes and will debut in 2026.”
HBO Max is now the streaming home of the 2025 dramedy Superman from James Gunn.
If you loved Prime Video’s We Were Liars, this last week, the streamer announced it renewed the show for a second season. The first year followed Cadence Sinclair Eastman as she fights to discover what secrets everyone keeps from her that led to the tragic accident that has left her with traumatic injuries and unable to remember.

In other renewal news, Apple TV+ renewed The Morning Show for a fifth season a day ahead of its Wednesday fourth season debut. The drama stars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon.
Based on the novel of the same name, this past week a trailer and teaser images for The Housemaid showed up. According to the novel’s Goodreads page, this book is about a woman who comes to work for the wealthy Winchester’s. But in their employ there is darkness and a family who seem “off” and broken in ways unexplainable. The film will star Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried.
