POP CULTURE NEWS ONE HUNDRED and THIRTY-EIGHT: EXCITING NEW PRODUCTIONS
Hey, there! It’s Friday and around this websphere, this means one thing. We recap (and sometimes get excited over!) the weekly pop culture stories, primarily of the fun variety. Because yes, that’s what we all prefer to read about, right? Let’s dive into the stories from this week. pop culture news one hundred and thirty-eight

NEW SERIES’ ORDERS for HALLMARK
While I’m more miffed with Hallmark series currently than excited, they did order another series based on the novel The Chicken Sisters. The series is set to star former Hallmark movie stars Wendie Malik as well as Lea Thompson, plus Schuyler Fisk and Genevieve Angelson. The show is currently in production and will be a Southern “family drama” with romance and is set in a fictional town where of course, there’s a “rift between dueling fried chicken restaurants.” Honestly, I don’t really like the sound of this one. I’m sure it’ll be cute and fun, but the title… the teaser description… it just all seems a bit too goofy in a show that is likely supposed to balance comedy and drama. I watch comedy shows and love them, but I feel like this show wouldn’t do well as a sitcom but that’s how the plot is reading. The show will have eight episodes.

LAST THINGS
A few weeks ago we shared that Amazon Prime was developing an Elle Woods/Legally Blonde show which we know now will feature Elle Woods during her high school years. Honestly, this doesn’t thrill me. I’d have much rather seen a fun but respectful reboot or a continuation. I have a thing about seeing a character’s life pre how we see or know them in the present. Don’t mistake me, I’m sure I’ll still give the show a chance, but it just doesn’t have the same allure knowing it’ll go back in time. The show is currently is simply Elle.
Chad Michael Murray is another of the original Freaky Friday (remake) cast who is happy to join the planned sequel… if Jake has a story to tell.
This past week was the upfronts for all of the major networks during which they revealed their fall schedule. Two notable things were that ABC will delay two of their popular shows (Will Trent and The Rookie) until midseason while one of the CW’s most popular show, Walker, is missing. According to execs, Walker, alongside the CW’s All-American duo, is still in talks about renewal. Though all three do end well if they don’t receive a renewal.
FILM REVIEW | ‘ARGYLLE’: A SPY COMEDY SPOOF OF ITSELF
Though she’s familiar to Hallmark, and does have a film with them for Christmas 2024 (the already announced The Christmas Quest), Lacey Chabert will also be part of Netflix’s Christmas season! She’ll star in a film about a woman who meets a charming snowman who comes to life.
Netflix released teaser photos of their upcoming shows. One will feature Kristin Bell and another will feature Kate Hudson teaming with Mindy Kaling as showrunner. Bell’s will follow an agnostic woman who falls for a Jewish guy (Adam Brody) and is based on creator, Erin Foster’s own life. The show is titled Nobody Wants This and will drop on Netflix in September. Hudson plays the only girl in a family of boys who has been overlooked her whole life until it comes down to her to take over an LA baseball team, and her family’s business. Hudson’s is tentatively being titled Running Point. It also looks like a show that will make the guys look like idiots, so… yeah, not sure that’s going to be a vibe.
The trailer release for Colleen Hoover’s upcoming (summer) drama It Ends with Us made headlines this week. In other big trailer news, Wicked is releasing its trailer too.
According to Focus Features Instagram page, it’s official. Downton Abbey 3 is on its way. Returning cast includes Michelle Dockery, Allen Leech, Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Elizabeth McGovern, and many others. (Also do we hope that Branson (played by Allen Leech) will also return with his wife??) New cast includes Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell-Beale and Arty Froushan. The film will be directed by Simon Curtis and is being written by Julian Fellowes, the creator.
