If you want cozy mystery, there is really no streaming service that is better suited to provide it than Acorn TV. Their latest drop is You’re Killing Me, a new addition that inspires today’s publication as we look at things to watch like it. Most of these may be from Acorn TV, so they may seem “boring” only because you all would already know about them, but if you don’t know much about Acorn or you want to be remined, let’s see what else we can feature.

Share on XThis drop features Brooke Shields taking on the lead role of Allie Chandler. In You’re Killing Me, she plays a best-selling novelist who gets the sleuthing bug when one of her friends dies under mysterious circumstances. Tagging along for the mystery, and eventually, becoming her co-writer on a new project, is Andi, a podcaster who isn’t really fulfilled by this work. The series got off to a great start and is so entertaining that I wanted to see what else we could find that would be similar.
THINGS to WATCH LIKE YOU’RE KILLING ME
AGATHA RAISIN
This show is really fun and may be what inspired my love of these international cozy mysteries. It has Ashley Jensen in the role of a big-city PR expert who trades it all in for a quieter life where the colorful fashionista ends up picking up a new hobby, which is to solve local mysteries! This one not only has similarities with the sleuthing but also does have a generation gap (though not played up as funny) with the housekeeper and cop who help her solve these cases.
Synopsis: Fulfilling a lifelong dream, Agatha Raisin retires early to a quaint village in the Cotswolds and soon finds a second career as an amateur detective investigating mischief, mayhem, and murder in her deceptively devious town. – via Acorn TV

DEATH VALLEY
Surprisingly, I did find a few titles that lean into the comedy that happens when it comes to the differences between generations. This is another one that goes all in for this and it’s pretty funny. It’s about a cop who, while investigating her latest crime, meets the actor who played one of her favorite TV characters. The show is thoroughly entertaining and also will have a second season coming soon!

THE GOOD COP
This is a one and done season that dropped on Netflix quite a few years ago now. It’s a fun series that had Tony Danza playing a disgraced cop and dad to Josh Groban’s uptight, honest cop. If I’m remembering right, it’s very much a good time. I think it has maybe ten episodes and is an easy to enjoy binge watch.
Synopsis: In The Good Cop, Tony Danza plays Big Tony, a lovable yet not exactly honorable, former NYPD officer who never followed the rules. He lives with his son, TJ, Josh Groban, a brilliant, straight-laced NYPD detective who makes a point of always following the rules while solving Brooklyn’s toughest cases. – via Netflix

GOOD COP/BAD COP
This one is a production that filmed in Australia (I think) that is about a family in law enforcement, but focuses primarily (from what I’ve read, I think I’ve only watched one or two episodes) on the relationship between a brother and sister who are wildly different. The US debut of this one came on CW, and though I never saw an official announcement, rumor has it that no one renewed this production.
Synopsis: Siblings working as detectives in a small town navigate quirky locals, limited resources, their strained relationship, and their father, who’s the police chief, in this comedic crime procedural. – via Prime Video

HARRY WILD
This is a delightfully funny show, from the same streaming platform that now has You’re Killing Me. In this, Jane Seymour plays a professor who gets involved with murder cases after she is mugged. She uses the connection she has with the police (although her son doesn’t always know she’s using him!) to solve cases alongside the young sidekick, Fergus, whom she befriends. Additionally, in the currently running fifth season, the show has added Joe Lando to the cast, who is Seymour’s former Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman co-star.
Synopsis: Literature professor Harriet “Harry” Wild (Jane Seymour) is adjusting to retirement when she’s mugged. While recovering at the home of her son (Kevin Ryan), a detective in the Dublin police, Harry gleans a clue for his current case. But when she’s rebuffed, Harry decides to solve the crime herself. Recruiting an unlikely young sidekick (Rohan Nedd), she finds a new path as a private investigator. – via Acorn TV

MOONLIGHTING
A US TV dramedy from the 80s, this one follows a model who becomes part of a detective agency that she ends up co-running after it becomes the only interest she has left after her financial advisor leaves her without any capitol. Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis starred as Maddie Hayes and David Addison.
Synopsis: When former fashion model Maddie Hayes goes broke and finds that one of her few remaining assets is ownership of the Blue Moon Detective Agency, she’s tempted to liquidate it until she meets the quirky employees and gets involved in their even quirkier cases. – via Prime Video

MY LIFE is MURDER
Easily one of my most favorite cozy mysteries, this one is another Acorn TV original and has Lucy Lawless in the role of former cop turned consulting detective. The series starts off with Alexa being a baker whose only connection is with a cat, but now she has a great group of people around her and the show is just so entertaining.
Synopsis: Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess, Parks and Recreation) stars in this contemporary Australian detective drama as retired cop Alexa Crowe. With her old boss (Bernard Curry, Once Upon a Time) regularly asking for her insight on cold cases and a young police data-analyst (Ebony Vagulans) eager to be mentored–whether Alexa wants to or not–Alexa can’t seem to stop solving crime. – via Acorn TV

ONLY MURDERS in the BUILDING
A show that has become a fan favorite, I watched an episode or two of this but didn’t loyally watch. It has Martin Short and Steve Martin reuniting (after famously starring together in the Father of the Bride films) and as the third person to join their trio, Selena Gomez. The show is about them solving mysteries and of course, the different things they are respectively dealing with.

QUEENS of MYSTERY
A young up and comer in the police department has to deal with her three aunts who consistently meddle in her cases. The show only got two seasons, which I think is quite the crime, but is overall still worth watching and it also has an adorable little flirtation between two of the characters.

SO HELP ME TODD
This one definitely has the generation gap thing going for it. The relationship in this one though is between a mother and son. The stories are really fun and Marcia Gay Harden trying to help her private eye son investigate cases is cute. She plays a lawyer, who helps her somewhat irresponsible son get work at the firm where she works. The laughs keep coming and the show is all around more feel-good that dark or any kind of depressing.
Synopsis: As a kid, Todd wanted nothing more than to be a private detective. When his uber-successful lawyer mom offers him a job as an in-house investigator at her firm as a way for him to get his act together, he agrees. – via Prime Video

BONUS! THE FLOWER SHOP MYSTERIES, film series
Her latest role as Allie in our featured Acorn TV show isn’t the first role that sees Shields play an amateur sleuth! This title is a three movie trio TV collection that debuted way back in 2016. It had Shields playing a former lawyer turned flower shop owner who ends up becoming a sleuth solving cases with a fellow business owner and former private detective.
Synopsis: Abby Knight is an ex-lawyer, crime buff and owner of Bloomers Flower Shop, who consistently finds herself in the middle of a murder mystery – via Hallmark+
