Reminders of Him (2026) Film Review

Prison has changed Kenna (Maika Monroe). She made one of the worst mistakes of her life on the night that landed her with a sentence and now, as she walks out of her cell, all she wants to do is rebuild and meet the young daughter she doesn’t know.

Trouble is, no one in her small town wants to get to know who she is now. Instead, there is only resentment and blame.

The only possible exception is Ledger (Tyriq Withers), a bartender who has a connection to Kenna… but also isn’t quick to give her a chance.

Based on the novel by Colleen Hoover, this is a bestseller story that I have never read. Reminders of Him is also a film that, unlike another certain Hoover adaptation, is a title that is enjoyed a much quieter rollout. The film has newcomers in the lead but also features Lauren Graham and Bradley Whitford in supporting roles.

This is one of those interesting movies. Unlike my feelings about Hoover’s books, this film did pleasantly surprise me. Of the now two movies I’ve seen with her name, I did really like this. I don’t have plans to read Hoover’s books, and while I can appreciate some of the themes of her adaptations, they aren’t my kind of novel. I liked Regretting You fine but didn’t love it.

Still, if you like the other features adapting Hoover’s works or emotional dramas, you will likely enjoy this.

Content: this one has adult content including a scene of a couple having sex. A second scene also shows them lying together half undressed implying sex. Far off shots show two people skinny dipping. There are adult themes including prison sentences and the emotional fallout from this. Other adult themes including loss is a big part of the script. There is some profanity, too, including the f-word. The film is PG-13.
