Taylor Swift: Enchanted

Enchanted, Taylor Swift

About the song:

Released: 2010

The story: Enchanted chronicles a girl making the acquaintance of a guy and being enchanted to have met him. She wonders about him, hoping the end to their story hasn’t been written.

ENCHANTED TAYLOR SWIFT

My thoughts: like all of Taylor’s songs, this one has a story to tell. And, this song truly is enchanting, charming… and sweet. Some of the lines may suggest overtures of something less pure, but all in all, this is probably my favorite song on the country darling’s latest release. What the song reminds me of is the blush of a first crush.

This night is sparkling / I’m wonderstruck, blushing all the way home / I was enchanted to meet you.

– Enchanted Taylor Swift

Since she burst onto the scene at the age of fourteen, Taylor Swift has become an overnight sensation. Her albums have gone multi-platinum and she has sold record-breaking copies of them. Understandably, most of her material best suits young teens and pre-teens (note one line begging the source of Taylor’s enchantment not to be in love with “anybody else.”) because that is the twenty-one year olds target audience. I have heard and enjoy all three of her albums, while surprisingly her latter two have less suggestive overtones than her self-titled debut. Taylor’s strengths lie in her writing; she doesn’t have a magnetic voice. Enchanted is one track I think she does sound wonderful on. The song requires a breathy kind of innocence and she nails that.

It’s too bad this hasn’t been a single yet because I’d love to see what Taylor would do with a music video – it’d be enchanting.
