Movie News! All the Pretty New Little Women Photos

by

No doubt, by now, anyone who is interested has seen the ‘hot off the press’ Little Women (2019) photos of Greta Gerwig’s upcoming adaptation of the classic. Still, I want to share them because period drama bliss! Set to release Christmas Day this year (who else is there??), this film is rumored to take a different approach than the popular Katherine Hepburn or 1994 adaptations.

The story is described as follows:

‘Little Women’ is based on the Louisa May Alcott novel of the same name and tells the story of the four March sisters—Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy—as they grow from children into women. The novel is seen as a sort of autobiography about Alcott’s own life, growing up with three sisters, and is one of the classics that kids (especially girls) grow up reading. And for Gerwig, the novel is incredibly personal, in a similar way as ‘Lady Bird.’ – The Playlist

The film stars Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, Emma Watson, Eliza Scanlen, Laura Dern, Timothée Chalamet, and Meryl Streep.

Some of these actresses I’ve seen in other roles, others I haven’t seen in anything. Most of all, I’m curious to see how this mostly fresh-faced cast brings this story to life. Because of the director and today’s modern age, I have a feeling this film won’t be exactly what I hope it to be, but I’m still curious, and am going to 100% (no questions) see it. I just hope the vision the director has of this one isn’t so far off course that it loses what the story is, and its charm.

This story is bittersweet, yes, but it’s also wonderful and complex and beautiful in so many ways. Does it foreshadow some more modern ideals? Yes, but that doesn’t mean these need to be explored at the cost of the beauty and charm. Also, who else thinks I should read the book before seeing this film??

Without further ado, here’s the NEW Little Women (2019) photos! You can scroll through the Instagram post below or visit Vanity Fair.

Little Women (2019) photos

What do you think? Aren’t they all kinds of prettty!?

Basically, these look to be all the period drama bliss. I just hope the story has the same feels these images evoke. One thing I really want to see more of in this film is Jo’s relationship with the Professor. This is something I really wanted more of from the three hour miniseries (and I thought it would!), but alas, didn’t. So, now I’d like to know….

Tell me, what do you think of these? What do you hope to see more (or less) of in this 2019 big-screen adaptation? What do you think of the cast? Comment down below with all of your wishlist hopes. What do these photos tell you – or make you wish for?

  1. It’s interesting to me that they’re doing this not too long after Masterpiece ran their rendition of this book. I’m hoping it will be excellent and not disappoint. And yes, you should read this! Lol! :)

    1. It is to me as well, Tressa. A friend of mine once told me that this happens in “Hollywood.” A story/script is shopped around, and that’s why sometimes different studios release the same (adaptations) or similar stories within the same space of time. Like “First Daughter” and “Chasing Liberty.” I think one of those was pushed back (even though it was made first) to put some distance between it and its copycat; it was then accused of being a copycat, when in actuality it was produced first. It’s interesting.

Thanks for the encouragement. I always need it! ;)
