‘MIDNIGHT MASQUERADE’: A REALLY FUN HALLMARK CINDERELLA STORY

Several years ago now I watched Midnight Masquerade, a Hallmark romance with Autumn Reeser and Christopher Russell. It’s one of the few autumn set stories that also has a kind of Halloween feeling, but ultimately is also a kind of Cinderella story.

Midnight Masquerade (2014) Hallmark TV Film Review

Building a career is something Elyse Samford (Reeser) is happy in doin. But she rarely, if ever, makes time for a personal life in pursuit of that. Now, as a wealthy heiress, she inherits a company from her father which introduces her to Rob (Russell), a lawyer who is treated badly by fellow co-workers. Needing legal help, Elyse hires the firm and invites them to a masked ball her company is hosting.

Expected to work through the ball, Rob’s niece has other ideas. Instead she helps him make it to the ball, where perhaps these two people just may find something special.

It’s been a while since I saw Midnight Masquerade, but my memory of it is that it’s really quite sweet and cute. I don’t think it’s the only (modern) fairytale type story from the network, but it’s certainly one of the sweetest. Perhaps reason being its two main stars that both have that wholesome next-door kind of personality that makes them easily and instantly likable.

The film tells a charming story of romance with good characters, sweet nods to Cinderella, and as always, a happy end. Like most of the titles I’ve seen from these production companies, this is another to add to the list that make you happy when watching. There’s lots to smile over, and sometimes, that’s all any of us wants – something to make us smile.
