POP CULTURE NEWS, EDITION 15: NEW CASTING DETAILS + OTHER THINGS!
Hey, there! We’re back with the first pop culture news, edition 15 of the New Year. In our return back there’s not a lot of pop culture news to discuss, which surprises me given I did skip last week (it wasn’t easy for the part of my that tries to be consistent and disciplines), but here we are. Nonetheless I did find a few things to share, so we’ll jump in.
TV SERIES REVIEW | ‘QUEENS OF MYSTERY,’ SERIES TWO: ACORN RETURNS TO THE COZY VILLAGE FOR MORE FUN!
Most of these aren’t “new” but they’re worth a little reminder and a just for fun kind of thing. Plus, who doesn’t love to end the week on a light and happier note? Pretty sure we all do! Time to share our news picks! Let’s go.
POP CULTURE NEWS, EDITION 15
1: BIOPIC ABOUT AN ICON
Apple is on track to produce a film about popular film star Audrey Hepburn. As of now, the film is set to feature Rooney Mara. Looks wise, Mara seems a good match though I’m not sure if she’ll play the role well. Time will tell in this biopic that says its plot is being “kept under wraps.” An Oscar nominated director, Luca Guadagnino, is also currently on deck to direct.
2: CHRIS EVANS + GENE KELLY
POP CULTURE NEWS, EDITION 15: NEW CASTING DETAILS + OTHER THINGS! #RAELYNN #POPCULTURE #GENEKELLY #CHRISEVANS Share on XSpeaking of classic film stars, rumor has it Chris Evans is on track to play Gene Kelly in a story idea that’s an original Evans idea. The plot is set to follow a young boy who works in 1950s Hollywood who finds an imaginary friend in Gene Kelly. Could be fun, or it could be very bad. Who knows! What are your thoughts? Can you see Evans as the iconic Kelley? I’ll be honest, I’m not convinced.
3: GAC DEBUTS ITS FIRST NON-CHRISTMAS ROMANTIC COMEDY
Post-Christmas movies and its first season as a producer of Christmas films, GAC will debut its first winter romance this weekend in The Winter Palace. This also marks their first collab with former Hallmark star Danica McKeller who signed a three year exclusive deal with the network. She’ll also produce and in interviews says a large reason why she signed this deal was for the creative freedom and collaborative efforts.
4: S.H.I.E.L.D. RETURN?
Recently, Twitter had a hashtag in its trending bar (or so they say) that was petitioning for a return of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Even its star Ming-Na Wen says “fingers crossed” about its possible return. Likely if it did, it’d go on Disney+ which is a bummer since I have zero interest in the Disney streamer. What’s your thought on this possibility?
5: THE SPILLOVER
This week’s podcast episode of the Spillover is an interesting conversation for anyone who loves country music and pop culture. It’s all about the industry in conversation with country star RaeLynn. Plus she discusses her album Baytown. Lots of fun and she sounds like such a genuinely nice person.
One last thing… Hallmark’s When Calls the Heart will return March 6. What are you hoping to see in season nine?
