POP CULTURE NEWS EDITION TWENTY-ONE: NOT MUCH TO REPORT TODAY
Ok, so honestly, in our Pop Culture News Edition Twenty-One, there isn’t a lot of newsy things. At least my early run-through doesn’t reveal much. Still, we’ll find a few stories and hopefully they’ll be interesting things regardless of the shorter list.
LIST | ON MY PLAYLIST: MORE MUSIC I’M LOVING “ON REPEAT”
There’s always TV news, so there’s more of that, a celeb story or two and we’ll see what else. Let’s just dive in and see what’s cropped up on entertainment sites or social media feeds in this past week.
POP CULTURE NEWS EDITION TWENTY-ONE
1: CHRIS PRATT WILL PLAY LATEST PRIME HERO
Based on the Jack Carr novels, Chris Pratt will star as James Reese, a Navy SEAL who begins to investigate why his entire platoon of Navy SEALs were ambushed. Sounds interesting for sure, and I’m glad to see Pratt back in a starring role. The series is currently set to drop on Prime in July.
2: DICKENS!
Charles Dickens Great Expectations is getting a “limited” series from FX and BBC. The series has Olivia Coleman starring as Miss Havisham, and mostly a fresh-faced cast in the rest of the iconic roles. Based on the little I know, it looks like it’ll take a more modern approach to its storytelling, and honestly, I’m not sure how this will play. But time will tell.

There’s a couple stories that feature Taylor Swift. One is that Jake Gyllenhaal broke his silence (why I don’t know) on the ten-minute version of ‘All Too Well.’ From his Esquire interview, he says “It has nothing to do with me. It’s about her relationship with her fans. It is her expression. Artists tap into personal experiences for inspiration, and I don’t begrudge anyone that.” Not sure if this is accurate or not, but I do agree with him that artists do tap into personal experience and that it’s not always the specific experience that the song is about. While no great fan of Gyllenhaal (as an actor), I also think Swift is unfair to him based on the song. The crumbling isn’t solely his fault, though his fault was dating someone so much younger than he.
Other Swift story is RUMORS that Swift and her five-year long relationship with Joe Alwyn is heading towards church bells. That’s right, fans are speculating that the couple is engaged. Not sure why since their basis is centered around a romantic trip they took in January. Like, ok, but that doesn’t equal a ring.
ONE LAST THING
- GAC is now airing Full House and Fuller House on their network.
- Julian Fellows The Gilded Age gets a second season renewal; did you see this one and if so, what’d you think?
- The Mentalist star (former CBS show), Simon Baker has signed a deal with MGM International Television Productions with an aim to “develop scripted projects with MGM with an international focus,” and there’s also an eye for him to star or direct some of these. I’m game for more TV shows with Baker although it probably would never be as good as The Mentalist.
- Peter Cambor will return (guesting) to NCIS: LA as original cast member Nate Getz. Should be fun, especially for anyone who watched the show from the start. Also… rumor has it there could be an NCIS set in… Australia!?
- There’s, of course, been lots of Oscar stories in the last two weeks. Honestly, I just do not care about the Oscars. They’re divisive and way too… much (we’ll leave it there) for my preference. Add in the fact that I rarely like or care about the nominated films and it’s a big “no thanks” from me.
- This isn’t a ‘pop culture news’ tidbit, but I’m curious so I’m going to end with this: did you guys see The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window? I’m curious, what’d you think?

Thank you for visiting! Please, do come back soon.
Count me in for Simon Baker and Chris Pratt! And I agree with you about the Oscars.
Right!? Two of my favorites! :)
