POP CULTURE NEWS EDITION 27: FAVORITE TV RENEWALS AND FORMER CAST MATES REUNITE

April 1, 2022 2 Comments

It’s another week gone by, and on this fine Friday, we’re diving into another pop culture news edition twenty-seven with more little pop culture stories. Let’s see what dominated some of the news cycle in the past week.

DISCUSSION | IS ENTERTAINMENT TRENDING TOWARDS A NEW WAY TO ROMANCE?

This go round, there’s renewals for a favorite franchise, a rom-com possibility and well, we’ll just see what else we can find. Let’s keep this short and sweet and just dive in.

POP CULTURE NEWS EDITION TWENTY-SEVEN

1: A POSSIBLE NEW ROMANTIC-COMEDY

The Wattapad sensation The QB Bad Boy and Me is getting an adaptation starring social media persona Noah Beck. He will make his acting debut in the production and act as a producer too. According to the article the story follow a girl named Dallas whose whole world is about dance and snagging the opportunity to give a scholarship. Everything changes with a star quarterback catches her eye. The head of studio (for one of the production studios) describes the film as a “playful and sweet YA comedy.”

We’ll see if it is, but I’m curious, do you know of any upcoming romances that could be good?

2: CBS’ MOST POPULAR TRIO RETURNS

CBS renewed its three popular shows in NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: Hawaii. The network will give each their 20th, 14th and 2nd seasons respectively. I haven’t watched NCIS since the end of 2020 or start of 2021 (which for me you KNOW is a BIG deal) and have only seen maybe two episodes of NCIS: LA from this current season. Will you be watching and are you disappointed in any of the direction the once amazing franchise has taken?

Other favorite CBS shows like Blue Bloods or Magnum P.I. have not yet gotten their renewal.

3: ONE FINAL SUMMER

For one final season, Hallmark renewed Chesapeake Shores for its sixth season and will likely air it during its summer programming.  The show seems to have Robert Buckley (based on Instagram) returning along with the major cast like Meghan Ory, Treat Williams, Emilie Ullerup, Brendan Penny, Andrew Francis, and many others to be back for this final season.

THE LOVE STORIES OF ‘CHESAPEAKE SHORES’ (OTP TV FAVORITES!) Of their three popular (and of those that no longer air now) TV shows, Hallmark’s Chesapeake Shores is far and away my favorite. There’s just something about it that makes me feel all the TV fangirl feels and despite being in the minority I’m also 100% a fan (even if it’s a bit of a diamond in the rough) of the Trace Riley and Abbey O’Brien love story. As we approach the return of its fifth year, today we celebrate Chesapeake Shores OTP favorite love stories. Kind of. LIST | Before I get into some of my thoughts, quickly, if you are aware, Chesapeake Shores is a familial drama about the O’Brien family. There is the divorced parents, Mick and , both of whom have their own challenges with their adult children. Those children include Kevin and Connor, Bree and Jess, and the eldest divorced mother of two, Abby. Finally there is their wise grandmother, Nell. The series follows their ups and downs, fights and make-ups, and of course, their various love stories. Ok, so here’s the thing. At the close of season four, I was quite the fan of all of the romances currently unfolding or promising more. However, as many have read, things are about to CHANGE in season five. I’m still bitter about this, but we’ll move past this and focus on the good! Because I’m indecisive and can never decide, let’s take a look at all three of the primary romances in Chesapeake Shores, only this OTP Favorites installment is likely to be quick takes as we’re featuring three couples. THE LOVE STORIES OF CHESAPEAKE SHORES OTP FAVORITES Be aware; there will be spoilers below! JESS & DAVID The romantics! These two are all about the grand gestures; and in fact, the writer’s use many a fairytale reference to help their love story unfold. 1: THE MEET-CUTE Funnily enough, Jess and David were in a kind of love triangle with Jess’ sister (Bree) in the beginning. Fortunately, they do work things out and everyone comes to realize that David has a little crush on the loveable but also annoying Jess. 2: THE KITCHEN There’s countless scenes of these two in the kitchen together, and really, I didn’t know how to make the heading sound more romantic! Maybe, “Kitchen Banter”? But basically, I’m packaging these all together in a kind of I-love-the-way-David-loves-Jess montage. Because, let’s be real, cute as she is, girl can be a challenge! 3: KISS IN THE RAIN I mean who doesn’t love a good one of these? Theirs in particular is cute because Jess talks about liking a guy (David) to David in the third person. Good guy that he is, he plays alone and admits he too likes her before they share a sweet kiss surrounded by a pretty wildflower garden and then, yes, rain! KEVIN & SARAH The adult romance, meaning these two have wisdom; they recognize when something won’t work and when it could. 1: THE BREAK UP Ok, yes adding this a good moment between these two is maybe a little weird, but I LOVE that these two recognize that their initial attraction NEEDS time before they look to a possible dating future. The reasons for this are good and valid, plus show that the two are wiser. 2: THE PROPOSAL I’ve already written a WHOLE thing on the proposal between Sarah and Kevin. The worst part is, Kevin struggles with how best to propose. Ends up, it’s simple yet authentic between these two. Taking the excuse of a flat tire, Kevin proposes on their drive back from visiting Sarah’s family and he does so at a pretty spot along the way against the water and a rustic beach. 3: MARRIED LIFE They’re pretty cute as married co-workers too! TRACE & ABBY The reunion romance; high school sweethearts reunite. I also like Trace’s persistence in reminding Abby he wouldn’t “give up,” and think that the fact that the writer’s cause Abby to react as she does is wrong because, dude, if the roles were reversed… oh, boy! Knowing how the story between these two ends makes me sad, but if I do decide to watch this new season, I’m sure I’ll find some things to enjoy about it. Finale note; if rumor is true, I also have to respect the reason why Metcalfe leaves. 1: THE RETURN The way they re-meet is all kinds of cute! It’s a “mistaken” assumption reunion and it’s just fun. 2: THE MOONLIT KISS Shortly after her return, Trace coaxes Abby to go to one of their old haunts. Under the moonlight, they swim in the lake and with the gleam of the moon surrounding them, they share a kiss. 3: THE HIGH SCHOOL DANCE RECREATION Because of their past and mistakes and the ways they’ve both made wrong choices, Trace surprises Abby with a kind of re-do of their high school prom dance. “I’m not giving up on us.” 4: THE ROMANTIC WALKS + CAMPING TRIP There’s a pretty walk or two between these two that not only turns sweetly romantic, but also features stunning and rustic scenery. Additionally there’s a camping trip they take that’s romance-y, too. What about you!? Which love stories do you like best? Do you watch this Hallmark show? Do you enjoy it? Will you watch this new season or are you still salty about the changes? Comment all of your thoughts down below! Let’s chat. PINTEREST PIN – SAVE & SHARE Thank you for visiting! What is your hope to see in this final season? I’d love to see Jesse Metcalfe return (though I know he won’t) and I also weirdly admire Hallmark ending this IF it’s going to mean losing cast and the like. It’s without question my favorite Hallmark show so I’m sad, but also I think Hallmark could have done this for When Calls the Heart WAY back with Lissing left and been WAY better off. Plus given Hallmark’s frequent re-use of talent, there is always the hope of a TV movie special to play catch up with everyone.

4: REIMAGINING A CULT CLASSIC

Rumor has it Netflix is looking to reimagine the cult classic Spy Kids. The OG movies starred Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara, the first of which released 20+ years ago. Robert Rodriquez, the director and creator of the franchise, is set to direct this next installment in the now closed deal. SO far the rumors report that this will introduce viewers to “a new family of spies.” Nonetheless, what do you think this story will do, and do you think any fan favorites will appear in this new version?

5: THE REUNION WE’RE HERE FOR

As if seeing them together in multiple MCU movies and two previous film projects to that weren’t enough, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans will reunite in a film called Project Artemis. The plot is, according to articles, still a secret, but Johansson is set to produce and Evans did tweet the story suggesting confirmation that they will co-star in this new project.

FINAL THINGS

  • CW has acquired the Canadian show Family Law though they have as yet to announce when it will air. The show features Jewel Staite and Victor Garber in a plot about a recovering alcoholic who much work at her father’s law firm. Remind you of anything? To me it sounds similar to the short-lived Bluff City Law. Could be a fun substitute if you loved that show.
  • Also more fuss about the sequel for the Top Gun trailer was made this week (why I don’t know since it’s been out a while?). That said I’ve NEVER seen the first film with Tom Cruise, is this even safe to say? Question is, do I see it? Let me know.
  • Bruce Willis’ family made the announcement that he is “stepping away” from acting in the wake of an aphasia diagnosis. The disease is one that affects a person’s cognitive abilities.
The Rookie Pilot
  • If you’re a fan of the ABC dramas Good Doctor and The Rookie, both did receive a renewal for another season coming fall 2022.

Your turn! Which stories did you see during the week? Did any of them stand out? Did any annoy you? Let’s hear all the things and thoughts. Comment away below.

    Oscars fashion wasn’t too good

I’d agree. Just not seeing anything that’s really pretty, unique or eye-catching. When the guys look better, that’s the sign of bad fashion. ;D
