βTHE MOST COLORFUL TIME OF YEARβ: TEACHER SEES WORLD OF COLOR FOR FIRST TIME
Trope-y but with a more unique hero, The Colorful Time of the Year is all about discovering a wonderous discovery.
The Most Wonderful Time of the Year (2022) Hallmark TV Film Review
Teaching is something Ryan Tanner (Christopher Russell) finds important. He loves it and enjoys seeing kids discover things. However he has something he keeps hidden. Keeping it so may be more difficult when the mother of one his students, Michelle (Katrina Bowden) comes into his life.
An optometrist who comes to her daughters school to give the kids exams, Michelle suspects Mr. Tanner may be hiding something and quite to his dismay, she doesnβt give up until she finds out what it is.

This is just one of those Christmas movies that doesnβt really sparkle. Donβt mistake me, itβs quite cute, but thereβs a few too many things that donβt live up to expectations. The cast is fine in some ways, and I actually do typically like Russell just fine. Same is true here.
That said, I donβt love Bowden in this role. She never seems totally at ease with being a mom (and the reappearance of the ex is kind of unneeded) and some of the supposed chemistry that we should believe builds between the leads just doesnβt work. Still the sequence of Michelle showing Ryan all the Christmas joys is admittedly sweet. The colorfulness of the film allows the script to keep a sense of magic and with that, there is some charm.
Not a favorite, The Most Colorful Time of the Year, is still fune. Just not the most memorable.
