2023 MOVIE ADAPTATIONS + MORE

Note: these release dates will likely change, possibly even to a different year. I’ll try to keep up with them and will update with the newest dates here. *Also, I didn’t upload photos for this post since I’m running on Wi-Fi fumes or more accurately a mobile hotspot. Ugh. Fixing Internet troubles isn’t my thing.

A MAN CALLED OTTO

ROMAN HOLIDAY, 75TH ANNIVERSARY

When: January 23 (one day engagement) | Where: Theaters | Genre: Romance, Drama

This is to celebrate the milestone 75th anniversary of the Audrey Hepburn film. I cannot remember specifics about this one since it’s been that long, but do remember feeling sad after watching the film.

LEFT BEHIND: RISE OF THE ANTICHRIST

When: January 26 | Where: Theaters, limited | Genre: Drama, Adaptation

Based on the novels (I assume), this series has never interested me.

MAYBE I DO

When: January 27 | Where: Theaters, limited | Genre: Drama, Comedy

This romantic drama follows Michelle and Allen as they navigate what’s next in their relationship. They decide to finally introduce their parents, only for that to reveal their parents already share a history. There’s big names in this one including Diane Keaton, Richard Gere and Luke Bracey. Also, did we realize this is Roberts and Bracey’s second co-star pairing?

GROUNDHOG DAY, 30TH ANNIVERSARY

When: February 2 (limited special engagement) | Where: Theaters | Genre: Comedy

Bill Murry stars in this famous film about a man who keeps reliving the same day over and over and over again.

MARLOWE

When: February 15 | Where: Theaters | Genre: Adaptation, Drama, Crime, Mystery

Liam Neeson plays the titular character in this 1930s era adaptation about a private detective hired to find the lover of an heiress. This film, described as a “gripping” film of a noir crime genre will also reunite Neeson with Diane Kruger, with whom he co-stars in the 2011 drama Unknown. This one looks to have an R-rating.

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA

When: February 17 | Where: Theaters | Genre: Sci-Fi, Sequel

The primary cast returns for more adventures with Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man and Evangeline Lilly’s Wasp.

EMILY

Chronicling the life of Emily Brontë in the aftermath of her mother’s death and how she channels that into her greatest work of fiction, this period drama is burdened with an R-rating and will feature Emma Mackey in the titular role.

BOOK CLUB: THE NEXT CHAPTER

When: May 12 | Where: Theaters | Genre: Sequel, Comedy

Never saw the first one, but this Diane Keaton comedy received great reviews. The plot follows a group of women in a book club, the first of which centered on them reading a racy novel if I remember right. This one will follow them on a vacation together.

LOVE AGAIN

When: May 12 | Where: Theaters | Genre: Adaptation, Romance Drama

Based on the novel by Sofie Cramer (Text for You), this tells the story of a woman mourning her fiancé and texting his number when she feels vulnerable, only this time someone answers back. Stars Sam Heughan and Priyanka Chopra Jonas will play the leads.

FAST X

When: May 19 | Where: Theaters | Genre: Sequel, Action

Vin Diesel and more return in this sequel about the “family” that his gang has formed, and the work they do with the law that is sometime outside of the law.

THE LITTLE MERMAID

When: May 26 | Where: Theaters | Genre: Fantasy, Fairy Tale, Re-Make

A live-action adaptation of the original animated The Little Mermaid from Disney, this is expected to make quite the splash in 2023. Some of these have been good and managed to keep the nostalgia factor in place (Cinderella) while other of the live-action films really miss that opportunity (Mulan). It’s going to be interesting to see which camp this one falls into.

INDIANA JONES: DIAL OF DESTINY

When: June 30 | Where: Theaters | Genre: Action, Adventure, Sequel

Harrison Ford will return as the hero, this time approaching retirement.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – DEAD RECKONING – PART ONE

Chronicles the adventures of Barbie and Ken, all set in the neon era of the 80s. Margot Robbie takes on the iconic role alongside Ryan Gosling.

OPPENHEIMER

POSSIBLE 2023 BOX OFFICE TITLES

LEGALLY BLONDE 3

When: 2023, unknown | Where: Theaters | Genre: Comedy, Drama

This one is currently listed as 2023, but I have DOUBTS about that. I don’t think it’s even filmed yet so given that, I don’t think it’ll actually come out this year. Right now, it does say it’s bringing back Reese Witherspoon so there’s hope it’ll still be good.

    1. They are indeed! I didn’t read the book either but did read two of the OG books. We’ll see if I’m inspired to read this one or not. Probably not since I’m not really the greatest fan of prequel stories. I hope you enjoy, Molly! Let me know if you do read it.

  1. I’d like to see A Man Called Otto, plan to see the new Indiana Jones and Mission: Impossible installments, and MUST see Marlowe. Might go see the 75th anniversary showing of Roman Holiday too :-)

    1. I needed to add more anniversary titles! At the time I was rushing to finish this with a hotspot because of Wi-Fi issues so I didn’t want to take extra time. But I see Titanic is having an anniversary showing, too. Hope you enjoy all you plan to see! I’ll see the M:I movie and there’s a few more I’m curious about too! As it gets closer to each release day I’ll decided which to see. :)
